Lucrul cu tinerii poate fi și mobil – Youthwork can ”Be Mobile”
[RO] 2023 a fost la fel de plin de activități, poate chiar mai plin decât anii anteriori pentru că am avut multe mâini harnice care au făcut ca Tinemobilul să poată merge mai des, mai mult și mai departe.
Din iunie încoace activitățile Tinemobilului au continuat sprijinite de echipe de voluntari locali și internaționali din țări precum Franța, Portugalia, Spania, Italia, Croația, Georgia, Bulgaria, România și implementate în cadrul proiectului ”Be Mobile” proiect coordonat de partenerii noștri letoni BAZE. A fost o vară și o toamnă plină-plină.
În 2023 Tinemobilul a vizitat 7 sate din zonă aducând peste 60 de activități și peste 20 de proiecții de film însumând mai mult de 160 de ore petrecute cu peste 200 de copii și tineri, la care se adaugă mai mult de 60 de ore petrecute pe drumuri și ulițe și peste 80 de ore petrecute planificând și pregătind toate aceste activități.
Cu ajutorul programului Erasmus+ Tinemobilul nu doar că și-a întârtit roțile pe prin satele vecine ci a devenit și internațional găzduind vizita partenerilor letoni de la centrele BAZE și Merkis și a dat șansa colegilor noștri să viziteze la rândul lor cele două centre din Letonia.
Ne apropiem de finalul proiectului moment în care vom împărtăși metodele noastre de lucru, experiența, ideile și sugestiile și toate învățămintele adunate în cadrul acestui proiect de la toate cele 4 organizații implicate.
[EN] 2023 was just as full of activities, maybe even fuller than previous years because we had many industrious hands that made Tinemobilul go more often, more and further.
From June onwards Tinemobilul activities continued supported by teams of local and international volunteers from countries such as France, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Croatia, Georgia, Bulgaria, Romania and implemented within the “Be Mobile” project coordinated by our Latvian partners BAZE. It has been a busy summer and autumn.
In 2023 the Tinemobilul visited 7 villages in the area bringing over 60 activities and over 20 film screenings totalling more than 160 hours spent with over 200 children and young people, plus more than 60 hours spent on the roads and lanes and over 80 hours spent planning and preparing all these activities.
With the help of the Erasmus+ programme Tinemobilul not only delayed its wheels in the neighbouring villages but also became international by hosting the visit of the Latvian partners from the BAZE and Merkis centres and gave the chance to our colleagues to visit the two centres in Latvia as well.
We are approaching the end of the project when we will share our working methods, experience, ideas and suggestions and all the learnings gathered during this project from all the 4 organisations involved.

Crafting Generations – a volunteering story
The opportunity to participate in a long-term volunteering project was extraordinary news last November, 2022. The title of the project being “Crafting Generations”, it awakened in me the desire to polish the skills already present in the “File of my life” and the burning desire to acquire new ones. These being considered, I started the biggest adventure I ever dreamed of , which would be unforgettable and especially one that would change my life from all points of view. So, I invite you to sit comfortably, fill your cup with coffee or tea or your favourite drink and enjoy the story of my transformation from a man who didn´t know what to do with his life to a completely new human being.

All my life I’ve been looking for a way to escape from the boring everyday routine that most people choose because it’s simple and comfortable. Finding myself at an impasse of ideas, after years of searching and trying to find a meaning in my existence in this world, I exploded with happiness, being in tears of joy, when I was accepted for a long-term volunteering project in a place that I felt in love with from the first day, Greenville.
What is Greenville and where is located?
Greenville is a wonderful place on this planet Earth, located in Vrhovcak, a small village close to Samobor, Croatia. Beautiful things are happening there in a way of eco-educational purposes and reconnection with the nature for youngsters, grownups and elderly people, projects as Erasmus+ Youth Exchange as well as European Solidarity Corps programs, different workshops and activities related to sustainability and farming, one-day school trips for primary school children designed to bring them in contact with the natural environment throughout a series of fun activities to enrich their knowledge about flora and fauna that Mother Nature has in the bag for us and so on and so forth. You can think of Greenville that is a tiny piece of heaven that provides one of the most welcoming and warmth atmospheres with the bonus of an imaginary postcard which contains your new learnings and achievements that you gain for being part of the stories that happened there.
Who’s in charge of Greenville?
As we well know, every place has someone who takes care of it. Well, here we are not talking about a single person but a team, a small team made up of a few people who wear a smile full of energy every day, ready for action, who have a long experience in organizing and facilitating programs for young people and not only, people very capable of providing any kind of support and solving any situation in a professional way. This team fully deserves its chosen name, “Pozitiva Samobor”.
What is my purpose in the project and how did I get here?
The event was not a simple coincidence that I arrived for the 4th time in Greenville. Given this fact, the team already knew who they were working with and what I was capable of. This time, however, it was a long-term project with a lot of trials and challenges to go through. My role in this project is divided into two large branches, the first and the one that is physically demanding contains the renovation and repairing the Grenville house, the design and construction of new facilities in the courtyard and beyond, and the second branch is composed of writing an Erasmus+ Youth Exchange project and its facilitation. I can say that I am very familiar with the first branch, and I have been a builder all my life, starting from making boats that I used to play with in the puddles on the street to tools and small structures, but with the second branch I was not at all familiar and I can say that this was actually the biggest challenge in this project.
Now that we have the basic facts about where I landed, the team I work with, and the tasks I must complete, I’ll move on to the skills I’ve acquired and other amazing things that happened to me during my volunteer service.
Of course, no matter how much you build sometimes out of necessity, sometimes because of a hobby, you still discover something new and that’s why I was sure it would happen in this “Crafting Generations” adventure. I will list a few skills such as painting walls, installing plasterboards on walls, designing and building wooden chandeliers, building a wooden platform, building a concrete foundation for a fence, designing and building a rabbit hutch, and these are just some of the new things learned that for me they were easy to understand and acquire.
The biggest achievement, and that’s because I’ve never faced anything like this and it took me far out of my comfort zone, was writing and facilitating my Erasmus+ YE project called “Green Defenders”. It was a long period in which I worked my mental abilities a lot and in which I did a lot of research not only to write it but also for the information I needed to refresh myself for the workshops and activities that were going to compose the project timetable. The project was a real success for me and the team, with very good reviews and young people who went home with tears in their eyes and grateful for the educational program and for the opportunity to improve their knowledge regarding connection with nature, understanding the natural environment, gaining knowledge about the 5Rs of zero waste living and many other curiosities that the participants embraced with open arms.
I want to put on the page other interesting things that materialized through circumstances outside of working hours. My personal life had a gradual improvement starting from the first week I arrived in Vrhovcak. I was included more and more in various activities such as going to the gym with the team, which became a common weekly activity, going on hikes on different routes in different areas around Samobor and not only that, I had the opportunity to visit different cities for a day and I had the pleasure of discovering them in a relaxing way, I had the basic tutorial of how to sail a small sailboat, and many other fun things. I can really say that I travelled and had a lot of fun in Croatia more than I had in my native country and all this thanks to Pozitiva team and their spirit of inclusion, understanding and support in my journey.
Why and how would I recommend the volunteering program?
First of all, it is necessary to understand that this program is an opportunity for any of us to learn new things, to develop our already acquired knowledge or to work in the professional fields while helping the organizations that open their doors for volunteers. There are also other opportunities such as free time trips to explore the surroundings and more, the opportunity to integrate into a new community and to learn new traditions and habits in a way of intercultural diversity, the opportunity to learn a new language, and so on.
What we must always keep in mind when applying for a volunteer project, is that we don’t go there to walk around and that’s all. The program consists of a fair exchange between both parties, more precisely the hosting organization offers everything necessary, accommodation, meals and pocket money in exchange for the help that the volunteer undertakes to offer.
Another thing you should be interested in before applying for volunteer projects, and here I speak from the experience of colleagues from other projects, is to research the background of the organizations that offer programs of this kind, and even more than that. I have met volunteers who were disappointed by how other organizations proceed during projects, workshops and activities, they do not respect their basic duties towards volunteers, points that end up being critical for the health and well-being of volunteers.
On another note, I am one of the volunteers who enjoyed their experience to the maximum. Going back in time and thinking about how I started and how I finished the project, I can say that I am a different person from many points of view and what is most important is that after all this I acquired a lot of things that I was just dreaming. More than that, I could say that the big prize I won is a place in the “Positiva Samobor” team, something that gave me wings and made me believe even more in my dreams and powers.
Pretty cool, right? I thought so…
At the end of this story, I would like to thank all those who trusted me, those who supported me even in stormy and rainy days, those who taught me to love in many other different ways, I am grateful for all the help I received, I am grateful to those who made me feel at home and last but not least, for the fact that I have always been considered a member of the team, of the “POZITIVA SAMOBOR” family!

Mentor – first steps
As you can see on our page dedicated to this project, we are planning great results and working towards them, in order to provide a suitable support system for organizations, mentors and mentees involved.
Therefore, since April when we started and until now, not only we planned our steps but we made a whole study gathering precious information that will help us shape the rest of our work. Then we analysed the results and we planned the next step, a guide for youth professionals, for those people that are managing and supporting the mentor – mentee duo.
Keep close, we will publish more results (the study, the guide) in the following period and we promise they will be nice and useful.

Mă numesc Maëwen și fac parte din proiectul “Bucătăria Comunitară” al Curbei de Cultură.
Sunt din Franța, originară din Bretania, în nord-vestul Franței.
Întotdeauna mi-am dorit să călătoresc, mai ales de când surorile mele au început să călătorească peste tot, încă de când eram copil mi-am dorit să mă alătur lor, acum că am terminat liceul pot.
Nu-mi pot imagina viața fără să călătoresc, vreau să merg peste tot și să văd totul. Dar, deocamdată, să ne concentrăm pe România.
Nu sunt voluntar de mult timp, dar până acum îmi place foarte mult, a fost exact ceea ce aveam nevoie în viața mea.
Am venit în România pentru că îmi place să călătoresc și mai ales să călătoresc pentru a descoperi noi culturi, în liceu am studiat literatură și cultură engleză, iar la sfârșitul liceului am călătorit o lună de zile prin Marea Britanie. Anul trecut am mers la facultate pentru a studia literatura și cultura rusă.
Am plecat de la universitate pentru că pentru mine învățarea unei limbi noi, a unei culturi noi nu se face într-o sală de clasă toată ziua, ci în țara pe care o studiezi, trebuie să fii pe deplin în cultură pentru a vedea cum este.
De asemenea, întotdeauna mi-a plăcut să învăț o limbă nouă, în copilărie am învățat bretonă (vechea limbă a Bretaniei), apoi am învățat engleza și germana, anul trecut am început să învăț rusa și acum să învăț româna = )

My name is Maëwen and I am part of the “Community Kitchen” project of Curba de Cultură.
I am French, originally from Brittany in the North West of France.
I always wanted to travel, especially since my sisters started traveling everywhere, since I was a child I wanted to join them, now that I finished high school I can.
I can’t imagine my life without traveling, I want to go everywhere and see everything. But for now, let’s focus on Romania.
I haven’t volunteered for long but so far I love it, it was exactly what I needed in my life
I came to Romania because I like to travel and above all to travel to discover new cultures, in high school I studied English literature and culture and at the end of high school I spent a month traveling around the United Kingdom. Last year I went to university to study Russian literature and culture.
I left university because for me learning a new language, new culture is not in a classroom all day, but in the country you are studying, we have to be fully in the culture to see how it is.
I have also always loved learning a new language, I learned Breton in my childhood (an old language of Brittany) then I learned English and German, last year I started to learn Russian and now let’s learn Romanian = )

Bună! Sunt Lucrezia, o fată de 20 de ani din Vicenza, Italia.
În prezent studiez antropologie și am decis să iau o pauză de la studii pentru a experimenta ceea ce obișnuiesc să studiez în fiecare zi: să intru în contact cu o realitate diferită de a mea și să descopăr diversitatea care face ca o țară să fie unică.
În ultimii ani am participat la diverse proiecte de voluntariat, dar nu am avut niciodată ocazia să o fac în străinătate.
Așa că am decis să plec pentru această experiență de șase luni în România și să particip la proiectul „Bucătăria comunitară”.
Ca iubitoare a gătitului, am crezut că este proiectul potrivit pentru mine și pentru a afla mai multe despre tradiția culinară românească.
Aștept cu nerăbdare să împărtășesc momente cu localnicii și să învăț noi rețete. Cred că mâncarea poate aduce oameni împreună, în special de naționalități diferite și reflectă cu adevărat cultura oamenilor.
De asemenea, abia aștept să învăț limba română și să explorez cât mai mult această țară!
Hi! I am Lucrezia, a 20 years old girl from Vicenza, Italy.
I’m currently pursuing a degree in anthropology and I’ve decided to take a break from my studies just to experience what I’m used to studying every day: get in touch with a reality different from mine and discover all the diversities that make a country unique.
In the past few years I have taken part in various volunteering projects, but I have never had the opportunity to do it abroad.
So I decided to leave for this six months experience in Romania and to take part in the project “Community Kitchen”.
As a lover of cooking, I thought it was the right project for me and to learn more about the Romanian culinary tradition.
I look forward to sharing moments with local people and learning new recipes. I believe that food can bring people together, especially of different nationalities, and truly reflects the culture of people.
Also can’t wait to learn Romanian and explore this country as much as possible!
Lucrul cu tinerii detașat – Mobile Youthwork
[RO] La Curba de Cultură ne dorim să ajungem la cât mai mulți tineri din zonele rurale ale județului Prahova, să ne extindem dincolo de Izvoarele, Măneciu, Vălenii de Munte. Și deși centrele noastre de tineret (din Izvoarele și Măneciu) sunt deschise tuturor tinerilor, nu întotdeauna le este accesibil și ușor să ajungă la noi. Fie că nu au timp, fie că nu exista microbuz sau tren să îi aducă ori să îi ducă acasă seara, ori că nu își permit un bilet de tren sau autobuz de câteva ori pe săptămână.
Astfel, încă de când am deschis centrul de tineret de la Izvoarele, mulți dintre tineri ne-au spus să își doresc o Curba de Cultură la ei în sat. Și ne-am tot frământat cum să facem să ducem Curba la ei în sat. Ideea a venit în 2016, din păcate implementarea a fost posibilă doar în 2020 (unul din puținele lucruri pozitive aduse de pandemie). Am pus pe roate Tinemobilul în 2020, un Volkswagen Crafter ce obișnuia să care marfă a devenit centru de tineret mobil și cum nu e a lui Batman să fie Batmobilul, ci a tinerilor, e Tinemobilul.
Din 2020 si până în 2023 Tinemobilul a fost plimbat prin satele din zonă (Slon, Cerașu, Măgurele, Iazu, Bughea de Sus, Teișani, Olteni, Ștubeiu, Homorâciu, Cernești, Izvoarele, Măneciu și Cheia) cu ajutorul tinerilor implicați ca voluntari locali, și cu a voluntarilor internaționali veniți din țări precum Franța, Spania, Portugalia, Cehia, Polonia, Malta, Italia, Bulgaria, Georgia, Estonia, Turcia și care au organizat activități sportive, competiții de PlayStation, proiecții de film, activități artistice, discuții și dezbateri chiar mici ateliere de gătit.
Însă nu ne-am oprit aici cu internaționalizarea Tinemobilului și pe lângă vizite în Bulgaria pentru un schimb de tineri și în Germania la Festivalul Centrelor de Tineret Mobile (da, există și un astfel de festival, la prima ediție ce-i drept) am decis să colaborăm cu partenerii noștri din Letonia pentru un proiect de extindere a activităților de tineret și să învățam unii de la alții. Astfel că în 2023 și puțin din 2024 punem în aplicare proiectul ”Be Mobile” un proiect ce aduce impreună 4 organizații implicate și interesate de lucrul cu tinerii detașat/ mobil, și anume Centrul de Tineret BAZE și Centrul de Tineret Sigulda ambele din Letonia și Centrul pentru Dezvoltare Comunitară Durabilă și Curba de Cultură, ambele din România.
Astfel, am planificat vizite reciproce în cele două țări pentru a înțelege modul de lucru și contextul cultural și socio-politic în care activează fiecare organizație, vom crea o serie de activități de implementat cu tinerii dar și materiale de lucru, precum și o serie de întâlniri online și ateliere pentru a de îmbunătăți modul de lucru cu tinerii în zone îndepărtate, acolo unde aceștia nu au acces la un centru de tineret zilnic.
Țineți aproape, că vom prezenta mai multe din cadrul proiectului pe paginile noastre de social media și aici pe site, căci ne dorim ca și alte organizații să preia acest model și să îl adapteze și utilizeze în comunitățile lor. Toți tinerii merită să fie sprijiniți și să aibă oportunități de dezvoltare personală.
[EN] At Curba de Cultura we want to reach as many young people as possible from the rural areas of Prahova county, to expand beyond Izvoarele, Măneciu, Vălenii de Munte. And although our youth centres (in Izvoarele and Măneciu) are open to all young people, it is not always accessible and easy for them to reach us. Either they don’t have time, or there is no minibus or train to bring them or take them home in the evening, or they can’t afford a train or bus ticket a few times a week.
So, ever since we opened the youth centre in Izvoarele, many of the young people have told us that they want a Curba de Cultură in their village. And we’ve been thinking about how to get the Curba to their village. The idea came in 2016, unfortunately the implementation was only possible in 2020 (one of the few positive things brought by the pandemic). We got Tinemobilul rolling in 2020, a Volkswagen Crafter that used to carry cargo became a mobile youth center and since it’s not Batman’s to be the Batmobile, it’s the youth’s, it’s the Tinemobile (tineret = youth).
From 2020 to 2023 the Tinemobilul was driven through the villages of the area (Slon, Cerașu, Măgurele, Iazu, Bughea de Sus, Teișani, Olteni, Ștubeiu, Homorâciu, Cernești, Izvoarele, Măneciu and Cheia) with the help of young people involved as local volunteers, and international volunteers from countries such as France, Spain, Portugal, Czech Republic, Poland, Malta, Italy, Bulgaria, Georgia, Estonia, Turkey, who organised sports activities, PlayStation competitions, film screenings, artistic activities, discussions and debates, and even small cooking workshops.
But we didn’t stop there with the internationalisation of Tinemobilul and besides visiting Bulgaria for a youth exchnage and Germany for the Mobile Youth Centre Festival (yes, there is such a festival, in its first edition) we decided to work with our partners in Latvia on a project to expand youth activities and learn from each other. So in 2023 and a little in 2024 we will implement the project “Be Mobile” a project that brings together 4 organizations involved and interested in working with posted/mobile youth, namely BAZE Youth Centre and Sigulda Youth Centre both from Latvia and Centre for Sustainable Community Development and Curba de Cultură, both from Romania.
Thus, we have planned reciprocal visits to the two countries to understand the way of working and the cultural and socio-political context in which each organisation operates, we will create a series of activities to implement with young people as well as working materials and a series of online meetings and workshops to improve the way of working with young people in remote areas where they do not have access to a youth centre on a daily basis.
Stay tuned, as we will be featuring more from the project on our social media pages and here on the website, as we want other organisations to take up this model and adapt and use it in their communities. All young people deserve support and opportunities for personal development.

Bună ziua! Sunt Andrés, și sunt din Barcelona și am 28 de ani. Aceasta este a doua mea aventură cu Curba de Cultură (de data asta în proiectul ”Tinemobilul – The Fury Road”) după ce am participat la proiectul anterior de renovare a Centrului de Tineret din Izvoarele.
În acest nou proiect sper să am ocazia să-mi pun în practică cunoștințele mele de muzician atunci când vine vorba de diverse activități pe care le putem face cu tinerii precum și de a folosi arta ca instrument pentru a ne exprima liber. Să începem această nouă aventură!
Hello! I’m Andrés, and I’m from Barcelona and I’m 28 years old. This is my second adventure with the Culture Curve (this time in the project “Tinemobilul – The Fury Road”) after I participated in the previous project to renovate the Youth Center in Izvoarele.
In this new project I hope to have the opportunity to put my knowledge as a musician into practice when creating various activities that we can do with young people as well as using art as a tool to express ourselves freely. Let’s start this new adventure fellas!

Bună, mă numesc Flavie, am 19 ani si vin din Lyon, in Franta. Sunt aici pentru opt luni și jumătate pentru a lucra la programul “Youth Hosteling for Local Development”. Prin urmare, rolul meu va fi să ajut la promovarea turismului în zonă. De exemplu, întâlnirea cu producătorii locali pentru a le oferi idei care să-i ajute să ajungă la un public mai larg, explorarea (și apoi promovarea) traseelor de drumeții din jur, precum biserici, vizitând pensiuni pentru tineri din țară pentru a prezenta aceste locuri și, la o scară mai mare , uitați-vă la ce se poate face pentru a dezvolta un mod de călătorie mai bun și mai durabil.
Pe o notă mai personală, am studiat Psihologia anul trecut cu o opțiune de sănătate (cursuri medicale). Nefiind sigur că vreau să continui pe acel drum, am decis să încep studiile economice în septembrie. Din păcate, nu a decurs așa cum a fost planificat. Într-adevăr, am simțit încă din Liceu nevoia puternică de a mă simți util, de a fi activ și de a realiza activități concrete; Vreau să descopăr noi culturi, noi moduri de viață și noi oameni. De aceea m-am dus și am căutat o misiune de voluntariat. Curba de Cultura a răspuns rapid și cred că a fost șansa mea să fac ceea ce îmi doream de multă vreme. Sunt atât de recunoscător că sunt aici și că pot trăi o astfel de experiență. Sper să-mi fac partea, dedicându-mă acestui proiect, în timp ce învăț și cresc.
Hi, my name is Flavie, I am 19 years old and I come from Lyon, in France. I am here for eight and a half months to work on the “Youth Hosteling for Local Development” program. Therefore, my role will be to help promote tourism in the area. For example, meeting local producers to offer them ideas to help them reach a wider audience, exploring (and then advertising) the surrounding hiking trails as well as churches, visiting youth hostels around the country to showcase these places, and, on a larger scale, look at what can be done to develop a better and more sustainable way of travelling.
On a more personal note, I studied Psychology last year with a health option (medical courses). Not being sure I wanted to continue on that path I decided to start an economic degree in September. Unfortunately, it didn’t go as planned.
Indeed, I have felt the strong urge to feel useful, to be active and to achieve concrete activities since Highschool; I want to discover new cultures, new ways of life and new people. That’s why I went and searched for a volunteering mission. Curba de Cultura quickly responded, and I believe it was my chance to do what I had wanted to do for a long time now.
I am so grateful to be here and to be able to live that kind of experience. I hope to make my part by dedicating myself to this project while at the same time learning and growing.
Voluntariatul prin ochii Emiliei
Am visat multă vreme să voluntariez în Africa și am citit multe informații despre realitățile acestui continent, Anul ăsta a fost mai dificil pentru mine deci să colectez și caut informații mi-a adus un fel de pace și mi-a păstat speranța de mai bine. Abia așteptam o gură de aer proaspăt într-o nouă călătorie. Îmi amintesc furtuna ”stai acasă” a izbucnit și am descoperit că fără călătorit mă simt ca un pește fără apă.
Acum două luni am primit o invitație de la Corpul European de Solidaritate să voluntariatez în România. La început credeam că este o glumă hazlie. Cum ar trebui să pot împacheta în câteva zile, să-mi părăsesc locul de muncă și să amân treburi importante, pentru a merge într-o țară în care nu am mai fost. Cu toate astea, ideea nu m-a lăsat să dorm. Era acolo, bâzâind în mintea mea. Am spus da! De ce nu? Și nu o regret deloc!
Am cunoscut o grămadă de oameni din diferite culturi. Deși fiecare voluntar are propriul proiect aici, am avut și șansa de a luncra împreună și a ne cunoaște mai bine. Unii dintre ei erau implicați în renovarea clădirii unde Curba de Cultură își are sediul principal. Am organizat evenimente, filme și promovare. Odată, am organizat o seară de film într-un sătuc mic, cu numai 15 locuitori. Am pregătit o cinema în aer liber cu ecranul pe o dubă. Am fost așa entuziasmați și am aranjat totul în mijlocul nimicului când, surpriză! A trebuit să înlăturăm o parte din scaune pentru a lăsa niște fermieri să treacă cu căruțele cu cai. După ce am reamenajat, patru copii timizi din sat au venit să vadă ce se întâmple, să vadă filmul. Îmi amintesc că am fost așa de fericită și entuziasmată pentru ei pentru că eu nu am avut parte de astfel de experiențe când eram mică.
De-a lungul săptămânii lucram cu tineri și copii la Centrul de Tineret. Proiectul pentru care am venit s-a numit Descopră-ți potențialul. Scopul său a fost să creeze oportunități atât pentru tineri cât și pentru cei mici. Jocuri, distracție, integrare multiculturală, artă sau activități fizice și multe altele. Am învățat noi abilități sau limbi unii de la alții. Fiecare voluntar putea contribui cu ceva. Un bun exemplu este ultima lecție de spaniolă desfășurată afară de Robertp, sau atelierul de gătit cu Oana. Am pregătit ”zacuscă”, o pastă de legume tradițional românească pe care o poți mânca pe pâine și să simți doar bucurie.
Uneori, voluntariatul poate fi dificil, dar în același timp aduce mult bine în viețile altor persoane, mai ales alor noaste. Cred că fiecare dintre noi ar trebui să experimenteze asta măcar o dată în viață.
Una dintre experiențele pe care nu le voi uita a fost aceea de a face o cocă pentru 100 de clătite și 74 de brioșe. Noi eram responsabili cu gătitul tuturor acestora pentru evenimentul de promovare. Ne-am împărțit în echipe de cinci voluntari și am lucrat pentru acest eveniment festiv. Cei care mă știu sunt conștienți că mă ambalez destul de mult în bucătărie. Când am primit această sarcină eram destul de îngrijorată, dar până la urmă am reușit să o facem și să ne și simțim bine.
De obicei avem weekendurile libere pentru a putea merge să călătorim și să învățăm despre cultura locală. Sunt așa recunoscătoare că am profitat de acest timp în întregime. Am vizitat Bucureștiul, capitala, și am încercat bucătăria tradițională românească. Alpturi de un alt prieten, am văzut trei orașe frumoase și vechi: Sinaia, Brașov și Sibiu, situate printre munți. În timp ce făceam autostopul, am găsit o doamnă foarte drăguță care ne-a dus până la locația noastră. A fost surprinși să aflăm că aceasta era italiană, exact ca și prietenul meu Elia. M-a surpins și numărul de urși din zonă, dar nu m-a speriat îndeajuns încât să nu merg pe traseu și să încerc cățăratul multi-pitch pentru prima dată în viața mea. Am putut vedea orașul și munții dintr-un punct mai înalt. Timpul stă în loc când ai o astfel de priveliște.
Le datorez majoritatea acestor momente deosebite ce mi-au îmbogățit experiența oamenior minunați pe care i-am întâlnit. Cu care atât gătitul împreună cât și munca crâncenă au fost experiențe extraordinare. Oameni cărora nu le e frică de sentimente sau provocări. Care pot merge cu tine în toiul nopții la o nuntă în România pentru a explora cultura mediului local și a adânci relațiile interanționale la nunți tradiționale.
”Cerul nopții este foarte limpede aici. Mă duce cu gândul la casă și îmi dă un sentiment de singurătate. Mă uit la stele și mă simt așa mică în întregul univers. Dar, în același timp, cu persoanele potrivite lângă mine, mă simt atât de vie și sprijinită indiferent cât de departe de casă sunt.”

I have long dreamed of volunteering in Africa and read a lot of information about the reality of this continent. This last year was more difficult to me so gathering information and searching gave me some peace and kept me dreaming about being better. I couldn’t wait for a fresh breath of air while on a new journey. I remember a time when the “stay home” storm broke out and then I discovered that without traveling I feel like a fish without water.
Two months ago, I got an invitation from the European Justice Corps to volunteer in Romania. At first, I thought it was a funny joke. How am I supposed to pack in a few days, leave my job and postpone many important matters, in order to go to a country where I have not been to before. However, the idea of it did not let me sleep. It was there, buzzing in my mind. I said yes! Why not? Well, I do not regret at all!
I met a lot of people from different cultures. Although, each volunteer has an individual project here, we also got the chance to work together and to get to know each other. Some of them were involved in the renovation of the building that would be the future headquarters of the Curba de Cultura organization. We organized events, film openings and promotions.
One time, we organized a movie night in a very small village, with only 15 inhabitants. We set up a field cinema on the back of the van. We were so excited and had everything arranged in the middle of nowhere, when.. surprise! We had to take away all the chairs to let some farmers pass with their horses. After rearranging four shy children from the village came to see what’s going on, to watch the movie. I remember being so happy and enthusiastic for them because I did not have any of this experiences when I was younger.
During the week, I was working with children and youngsters at the Youth Center. The project I have come for was called Uncover your Potential. Their purpose was to create opportunities for both young people and the youngest. Games, fun, multicultural integration, art or physical activities and many other activities. We learnt new skills or languages from each other. Each volunteer could contribute with something. A good example is the last Spanish lesson conducted outdoors by Roberto, or the cooking workshop lead by Oana. We prepared “Zacusca”, a famous Romanian veggie spread that you eat with bread and just feel joy.
Sometimes, volunteering can be difficult, but at the same time it brings a lot of good to other people’s lives, especially our own. I think each of us should experience it at least once in a lifetime.
One of the experiences I will never forget was making a dough for 100 pancakes and 74 muffins. We were in charge of cooking all of these for promotion event. We worked in teams of five volunteers and we prepared for this festival event. People who know me are aware that I make quite a fuss in the kitchen. When I got the assignment I was all worried but eventually we managed to do it and to have a good time as well.
Usually, we have the weekends free to be able to go traveling and learn about the local culture.
I am so grateful I took advantage of this time fully. I visited Bucharest, the capital, tried traditional Romanian cuisine. Along with another friend, I saw three beautiful old towns: Sinaia, Brasov and Sibiu situated among the mountains. While hitchhiking, we found a very nice woman who drove us to our location. We were surprised to find out that this woman was Italian exactly like my friend Elia. I was surprised by the number of bears in the local area, but it did not scare me enough not to go on the trail and try multi-pitch climbing for the first time in my life. I was able to see the city and the mountains from a higher perspective. Time stops when you have that kind of a view.
I owe most of these amazing and enriching moments I experienced here to the wonderful people I met. With whom both cooking meals together or hard work was an extraordinary experience. People who are not afraid of challenges or feelings. Who can go with you in the middle of the night to a wedding in Romania to explore the culture of the local environment and deepen international relations at traditional weddings.

Echipa de voluntari a anului! – The best team of the year
Apparently, my colleagues and I are finalists as Volunteers’ Team of the Year. That’s cool but I didn’t need the Volunteers’ Gala to tell me. I knew that already! I’ve been working and living in Schiuleşti with these guys for 6 months, so I know what I’m talking about.
If life were like the starting menu of a videogame, they would be the characters I would pick to build my perfect team. What’s amazing is that I didn’t choose any of them, I just happened to find them in my house.
Se pare că eu și colegii mei suntem finaliști la categoria Echipa de Voluntari a Anului, la Gala Natională a Voluntarilor. Ceea ce e super mișto, doar că nu aveam nevoie de Gală ca să îmi spună asta. Știam deja! Lucrez și locuiesc în Schiulești cu acești oameni de șase luni deja, așa că știu despre ce vorbesc.
Dacă ei ar fi parte dintr-un meniu de start al unui joc video, ei ar fi personajele pe care le-aș alege pentru a construi echipa perfectă. Ceea ce e mai minunat e că nu i-am ales, ci s-a întâmplat să îi găsesc în casă.

Working in a team is hard and I feel extremely lucky to have these guys with me. My advice to make it work is to learn to accept that nothing is ever going to be as you imagined it in your head. As Roman would say: “Open your mind, open your heart, just be happy!” and things will turn out okay.
Să lucrezi într-o echipă e greu și mă simt foarte norocoasă să am acești oameni alături de mine. Sfatul meu pentru a face ca totul să funcționeze e să accepți că nu totul va fi vreodată exact așa cum îți imaginezi. După cum Roman ar spune: “Deschide-ți mintea, deschideși sufletul, fii fericit!” și lucrurile vor merge bine.
Isabella este în România pentru o perioadă de 12 luni, din iunie 2017 până în mai 2018, în cadrul proiectului Izvoarele Unveiled [2016-3-RO01-KA105-035584] proiect co-finanțat de Uniunea Europeană prin Programul Erasmus+ și implementat în România de către Curba de Cultură.
