Dacă doriți să citiți un post amuzant și încurajator, vă rog să săriți peste acesta. Acesta este despre abordarea românească când vine vorba de natură în general.
Starting from the beginning: Bucharest. Weather welcomed me with temperatures around 35°C and Sorin, a cute, helpful employer from Curba de Cultura, with a broken van (the trunk was not opening). He he heee… To get luggage into a trunk was the very first little challenge. Definitely not the last one.
Începând cu începutul: București. Vremea m-a întâmpinat cu temperaturi de 35°C și Sorin un angajat drăguți și săritor de la Curba de Cultură cu o dubiță puțin defectă (nu se deschidea portbagajul). He he heee… Să punem bagajul în portbagaj a fost o primă mică provocare. Și nu ultima, cu siguranță.
I have already written something about me, you can read about my first expressions and experiences, and also about what happens in Romania when you go for a hike without a proper map. But what you do not know is that I have been in Romania before. Last year I spent a week in the west part around Caransebes. I tasted amazing goat and sheep cheeses while drinking fresh milk and then enjoying the softness of cake made from urda. But I also saw how many things might be improved here, and how much the country is trying to do something about it, too. Those little notions I would like to talk about a bit more, because they are one of many reasons why I decided to do my EVS here.
Am scris deja câte ceva despre mine, și puteți afla despre primele mele expresii și experiențe și despre ce se poate întâmpla când pleci în drumeție fără a avea o hartă potrivită. Ceea ce nu știți e că eu am mai fost în România înainte. Anul trecut am petrecut o săptămână în partea de vest a țării, în regiunea Caransebeșului. Am gustat brânzeturi de capră și oaie și am băut lapte proaspăt iar apoi am savurat prospețimea unei prăjituri cu urdă. Dar am văzut de asemenea cum multe lucruri pot fi îmbunătățite aici și cât de mult țara încearcă să facă ceva în privința asta. Despre aceste mici chestiuni aș dori să vorbesc mai mult, deoarece ele reprezintă unul din multele motive pentru care am decis să fac SEV-ul aici.
The nature is not immortal, we, humans, are not immortal. And we, humans, are not helpless or powerless. It has been just one month since I had arrived, yet I have met tens of people involved in the process of change. There are associations convincing Romanians to spay dogs instead of making new stray dogs, to sort waste instead of burning it, and there are other working with young people and whole communities. Because it is family and youngster where we need to start, if we want to make (and see) the difference.
Natura nu e nemuritoare, noi, oamenii, nu suntem nemuritori. Și noi oamenii nu suntem neajutorați sau lipsiți de putere. A trecut o lună de când am ajuns și am întâlnit zeci de oameni implicați în aceste schimbări. Există asociații care conving românii să-și sterilizeze câinii în loc să îi lase să facă alți câini vagabonzi, să-și soteze gunoiul în loc să îl ardă și există alții care lucrează cu tinerii și comunitățile. Deoarece trebuie să începem cu tinerii și familiile acestora dacă vrem să facem și să vedem o schimbare.
May be I am too keen of neatness, but really, is it such a big problem to finish what you started? Is it so hard not to beat your horse, not to throw puppies over your fence out to the street, to give your rubbish into a bin instead of burning it on side of the road or just… smile at a customer in a shop? The answer is NO. It is very easy, and fortunately there are people who are trying to do something about it. So, the real challenge is not about getting used to these, but to be truly helpful for those who want to change their homeland.
Try to broaden youth’s horizons so they can have wider purposes, it is what we are doing here. It is knowledge and experience what make us better, stronger, and more useful. It might be written differently in the official papers, but for me it is like that – Curba de Cultura helps to improve Romanian social environment through giving the opportunity to grow, know and undergo to youngsters.
Poate sunt eu prea dornică de acuratețe, dar pe bune acum, e chiar așa greu să termini ce ai început? E așa greu să nu îți bați calul, să nu arunci cățeii peste gard, să pui gunoiul în tomberon în loc să îl arzi pe marginea drumului ori… să zâmbești unui client în magazin? Raspunsul e NU. E chiar ușor și din fericire există oameni care încearcă să facă ceva în privința asta. Așadar adevărata provocare nu e să te obișnuiești cu aceste lucruri ci să fii cu adevărat util celor ce vor să schimbe ceva în țara lor natală.
Ceea ce facem noi aici este să încercăm să extindem orizonturile tinerilor astfel încât ei să aibă scopuri mai largi. Cunoștințele și experiența ne fac mai buni, mai puternici și mai utili. S-ar putea să fie scris diferit în hârtii dar pentru mine Curba de Cultură ajută la îmbunătățirea mediului social românesc prin facilitaterea de oportunități de a crește, cunoaște și experimenta.

Bye, bye Estonia! Say “Hi” to Romania!
Bye, bye Estonia! 31 of September was the time to flight to Romania. Before that I was totally struggling because of packing. In my mind entire time there was one question – How do you pack your 5 months things into one bag? Surprise, surprise I managed to do that just before going to sleep in day before leaving. Success 🙂
In that night I slept only 3 hours because I had to leave at 4 in the morning already and I didn’t have a good sleep. Luckily my mother was so kind that she dropped me off to the airport in the early morning. When we arrived to the airport it was madness over there, because many flights where at the same time and that didn’t happen very often when I had flights. Next, I had to drop off my bag, my big heavy bag. I was nervous because I didn’t know how much weight it is. Luckily everything was okay and I had the chance to start my trip without any problems.
After security check, after explosions check, after showing my bag I was thinking… well there were my problems and let the adventure begin.
Surprisingly I saw one of my friends in the airport, not knowing that before. Yes, Estonia is small, but meeting in airports doesn’t happen. After talking a lot and taking pictures, it was the time to go.
First stop Frankfurt.
In Frankfurt I was waiting about an hour with my bear, I didn’t have any problems luckily but had many conversation with strangers and all the time telling them that what I am going to do in Romania. It was tiring but at the same time exciting to here the stories.
I was flying with Lufthansa and it was really pleasant stay in both flights because I had the same seat on both flights and I got food and drinks. I really recommend having same seats, because it is just easier if you are tired J And of course I had lot of thinking what am I doing right know, how is it possible that I’m going to Romania, why am I doing it. I am just CRAZY!!
At last I arrived to Romania. Firstly I just wanted to receive my bag. It was my first aim in Romania. After long wait I saw my luggage. I have never been so happy to see my big heavy bag.
But there I was, exhausted, exited, scared and waiting my new life to start. Helllooo Romania!

Cinema nights – Seri de film
Cinema night is not just about watching a simple movie, it’s a special occasion to regroup with friends, to have a good time, to laugh.
Every time for cinema evenings we start by creating posters and sharing the event on Facebook. On the D-day we are filling up the car with materials and getting ready for the people to come. We set the equipment and slowly people are coming: kids, teenagers, volunteers and sometimes even adults.
Serile de film nu sunt doar despre vizionarea unui film, ele reprezintă o ocazie specială de a te aduna împreună cu prietenii, de a petrece timp împreună, de a râde, de a te simți bine.
Fiecare seară de film începe prin crearea de afișe și postarea evenimentului pe Facebook. În ziua filmului, punem toate lucrurile în mașină și pregătim totul pentru oamenii ce urmează să vină. Aranjăm echipamentul și încet-încet spectatorii apar: copii, tineri, voluntari și uneori chiar adulți.
Then, we start the movie, people have food and drinks, everything what they might need. They enjoy the time spent together. Sometimes they talk and laugh, sometimes they move around or even leave in the middle. Anyhow cinema nights are a great. They bring a change, they bring something different in the life of the community and this is really nice for the youngsters and children living here.
Apoi începem filmul, oamenii au gustări, băuturi, tot ce au nevoie. Și se bucură de timpul petrecut împreună. Uneori vorbesc și râd, alteori se plimbă ori chiar pleacă pe la jumătatea filmului. Oricum ar fi serile de film sunt minunate. Ele aduc o schimbare, aduc, ceva diferit în viața comunității și e foarte plăcut pentru copii și tinerii care locuiesc aici.

I am Mal, I am 20 years old and I am coming from South of France. My passions are skateboarding and music, both listening and playing drums and a bit of guitar. I am a vegetarian and I think this would be a big challenge in Romania, a country not really vegetarian friendly.
Thinking of my future, this EVS project hosted by Curba de Cultură seems to be a great opportunity, an opportunity to not miss. Furthermore I am motivated to live and experience life in rural area and to help at the development of the community. Definitely choosing this project changed the course of my life, but now I think it will also change the way of thinking.
I felt like going to discover the world, to discover cultures and to extend my vision and here I am. I started from Romania and most likely I am not going to stop here.
Eu sunt Mael, am 20 de ani și provin din sudul Franței. Pasiunile mele sunt skateboardingul și muzica, atât ascultatul cât și cântatul la tobe și puțin la chitară. Sunt vegetarian și cred că asta va fi provocare majoră în România, o țară nu tocmai prietenoasă cu vegetarienii.
Gândidu-mă la viitor, acest proiect SEv găzduit de Curba de Cultură pare a fi o șansă grozavă, una de neratat. Mai mult, sunt motivat să trăiesc și să experiementez viața într-o zonă rurală și să contribui la dezvoltarea comunității. Alegând acest proiect cursul vieții mele a fost schimbat, dar cred că îmi va schimba și modul de gândire.
Am simțit nevoia să descopăr lumea, să descopăr culturi și să îmi extind viziunea așadar de asta sunt aici. Am început cu România, dar cu siguranță nu mă voi opri aici.

Punct și de la capăt
Când ești voluntar SEV de-a lungul perioadei de stagiu treci prin numeroase faze. La început ți se pare că cele 10-12 luni stagiu vor fi o eternitate dar oricum, nu te grăbești nicăieri. La un moment de-a lungul stagiului se întâmplă ceva ce te face să îți dorești să lași totul baltă și să te întorci acasă. Dacă treci cu bine peste acel moment și conștientizezi că ai de fapt mult mai multe de câștigat decât de pierdut și alegi să îți continui stagiul descoperi că dintr-o dată cineva a apăsat pe butonul de repede-înainte și momentul reîntoarcerii în țara ta vine mai repede decât îți dorești.
Asta s-a întâmplat și cu trei din cei patru voluntari găzduiți de Curba de Cultură, iar la finalul lunii aprilie am spus La Revedere Aniei, Liinei și Sophiei. Asta nu înseamnă însă că nu vor mai exista șanse de a ne revedea. Până atunci însă fetele își vor pune în aplicare planurile și ideile îndrăznețe pe care le au, iar asociația noastră se pregătește de primit noi și noi voluntari care să continue munca minunată depusă de fete.
When you are an EVS volunteer throughout the stage you go through different phases. At the beginning 10-12 months of stage seem an eternity but anyhow you are not in a hurry. At some point something bad happens and you wish just to run back home. If you pass this moment and you realize that you have more to gain than to loose from the situation you also discover that somebody pushed the fast-forward button and the moment of the return comes way to fast.
This is what happened with three out of the four volunteers hosted Curba de Cultură, and in the end of April we said See you next time to Ania, Liina and Sophie. This does not mean there will be no chances of seeing each other. Until then, the girls will apply their plans and bold ideas and our association prepares for a new round of volunteers to continue the great job done by the girls.
Școala Altfel
18-22 aprilie a fost perioada în care s-a desfășurat Școala Altfel și în școlile de pe Valea Teleajenului. Pentru câteva dintre acestea Curba de Cultură a oferit activități de educație non-formală ori sesiuni de informare cu privire la oportunitățile de învățare și călătorie pentru liceeni. Iar acesta a fost al patrulea an consecutiv în care Curba de Cultură oferă astfel de activități.
Pentru școlile din comuna Izvoarele a fost deja de la sine înțeles că voluntarii SEV vor organiza diferite activități. Iar aceștia din urmă au avut libertatea de a propune activitățile pe care și-au dorit cel mai mult să le coordoneze. Pe lista lor au fost boardgames, mini-competiții sportive, jocuri în aer liber și vânătoare de comori.
Pe lângă acestea au fost și două sesiuni de informare desfășurate în cele două licee din Vălenii de Munte. Sesiunile au cuprins informații referitoare la schimburile de tineri sau stagiile SEV și și-au propus să îi determine pe elevii de liceu să conștientizeze că Uniunea Europeană prin programele sale oferă numeroase oportunități de învățare non-formală, peste hotare.
18th to 22nd April was the period named School Differently in the schools on Teleajen Valley. For some of them Curba de Cultură provided non-formal education activities or sessions regarding learning and traveling opportunities for highschool students. And this was the fourth consecutive year in which Curba de Cultură was activities provider.
For the schools in Izvoarele commune was already something normal to have the EVS volunteers organizing something special. And they had the liberty of proposing the activities they wanted to coordinate and implement. On their list were boardgames, sport activities, outdoor games and treasure hunt.
Beside these there were also two information sessions in the highschools of Vălenii de Munte. During the sessions the students learned about youth exchanges and EVS and they become more aware regarding the non-formal learning opportunities EU offers through its programmes.
Curba de Cultura in Local Media
Asociația Curba de Cultură a fondată în 2013 însă oamenilor din spatele ei le-a venit ideea înfințării acesteia și a unui centru de tineret cu mult mai multă vreme în urmă. De patru ani însă Curba de Cultură schimbă lucruri în comunitatea izvorană prin proiectele pe care le implementează, cu ajutorul partenerilor și al finanțatorilor săi.
Din 2015, pe lângă schimburi de tineri și cursuri de formare, Curba de Cultură găzduiește și voluntari SEV în cadrul proiectelor Erasmus+. Acest lucru a dus la o creștere neașteptată a impactului pe care organizația îl are la nivel local, regional și chiar național.
În 2016 colaborarea dintre asociație și școlile locale în diferite activități și evenimente a fost evidențiată și în presa locală și nu o dată. În imagini puteți vedea articole despre SEV, precum și scurte portrete ale voluntarilor găzduiți.
Curba de Cultură was founded în 2013 but the idea behind it is way longer. For four year already Curba de Cultură is changing things in Izvoarele community through its projects and with the help of its partners and its financiers.
From 2015, apart from Youth Exchanges and Training courses, Curba de Cultură started to host EVS volunteers in Erasmus+ projects. This thing led to an unexpected impact increase upon local, regional and even national level, the organization has.
În 2016 the collaboration between association and local schools for different activities and events was underlined by the local media and not just once. In the pictures above you can see articles about EVS as well as short portraits of the hosted volunteers.
Ziua francofoniei si cerc pedagogic engleza
Ultima săptămână a lunii martie a adus două evenimente majore în școlile din comuna Izvoarele, partenerii cei mai activi ai asociației noastre.
Pe data de 20 martie a fost sărbătorită Ziua Internațională a Francofoniei. Evident, a fost un eveniment de la care Sophie și Franck nu puteau lipsi, căci cine putea fi mai îndreptățit să participe la un astfel de eveniment decât doi francezi nativi. Cei doi însă nu au fost doar spectatori, ei au luat parte la întregul spectacol pregătit. Au cântat, au dansat și au împărtășit informații despre cultura franceză, despre obiceiuri și tradiții din țara lor natală.
În aceeași ultimă săptămână a lunii martie a fost organizat un Cerc Pedagogic de Limbă Engleză la care Ania și Liina au fost invitate pentru a împărtăși experiența lor de lucru cu copii și activități pe care le folosesc pentru a-i încuraja să devină activi și receptivi la cunoștințele de limbă engleză. Nici nu mai e nevoie să menționăm că beneficiile pe care le au elevii de gimnaziu și liceu de pe urma colaborării dintre instituțiile școlare și Curba de Cultură sunt enorme și vizibile cu ochiul liber am putea spune. De asemenea aceste colaborări sunt benefice și pentru voluntarii SEV care au ocazia de a fi creativi, inventivi și de a se organiza spre a avea rezultate cât mai bune.
The last week of march brought two major events in the schools of the Izvoarele commune, the most activ partners of our association.
On 20th March The International Francophonie Day was celebrated. Obviously it was an event which Sophie and Franck couldn’t miss. After all who would be more entitled to attend such event if not two native French? The two volunteers were not just spectators, they also took part in the entire show prepared. They sang, they danced, and they shared lots of information about french culture, habbits and traditions.
In the same, last week of March there was organized a meeting for sharing practices for all the English Teachers of Prahova county. For this meeting Ania and Liina were invited to share their experience in working with children and to share activities which they use to encourage them to become active and receptive to knowledge of English language. There is no need to mention all the benefits which middle school and high school students have from the partnership between schools and Curba de Cultură, they are extremely visible. Also this partnership has lots of benefits for the EVS volunteers as well, by giving them the chance of being creative, inventive and to organize themselves towards better results.
After EVS – Life perspectives
Apropiindu-se de finalul stagiilor SEV cei patru voluntari cu ajutorul mentorului lor au început să își facă planuri de viitor, să caute variante de urmat.
Sophie – odată ce se va întoarce în Franța va lucra pentru MRJC – o organizație neguvernamentală franceză care implementează proiecte în domeniul tineretului. Acolo se va ocupa de unul din proiectele lor, un schimb de tineri pentru care Curba de Cultură este partener.
Ania – își dorește să continue studiile dar totodată vrea să folosească toată această experiență acumulată. Până se va decide însă exact ce va face, își va lua o slujbă de vară în Italia, una din țările pe care le adoră.
Liina – are planuri de întoarcere în România, în luna iunie va lua parte la un Schimb de Tineri implementat în partea de nord a țării, în Poiana Negrii. Apoi va lucra o perioadă la un hostel în Brașov. Își dorește foarte mult să rămână în România, căci e o țară de care s-a îndrăgostit.
Franck – va munci alături de Sophie în schimbul de tineri din luna august. Mai apoi speră să poată face și el parte din echipa MRJC și poate să își continue studiile.
Cam acestea sunt planurile celor patru voluntari cu o lună înainte de întoarcerea în țările natale.
Getting closer to the end of their EVS stages the fourth volunteers with their mentor’s help started to make some future plans, to look for options to follow. Let’s see one by one:
Sophie – once back in France she is going to work for MRJC – a french NGO in the youth sector. There she is going to take care of one of their projects, a Youth Exchange, for which Curba de Cultură is partner.
Ania – wants to finish her studies but as well she wishes to use all the skills gained. until she is sure of what she will do she got a summer job in Italy, a country that she loves.
Liina – has plans to return to Romania. In June she will participate in a Youth Exchange in the North part of Romania, Poiana Negrii. Afer that she will work for a while in a hostel in Brasov. She wishes to stay in Romania, because she fell in love with it.
Franck – is going to help Sohie with the Youth Exchange in August. After that he hope to become part of the MRJC team, and maybe to continue his studies.
For now, a month before departure these are their plans.
Portret de voluntar – Sophie (Franta)
I am very attached to rural areas I also come from this kind of area and I think encouraging them to invest in their people is what they need to continue living. I want to share my various experience and skills I gained in the animation field and I think that through it I can contribute to the social economy and the sustainable development of the community. I wish to offer to youngsters a safe environment where they can express themselves, dream, play, meet, accept differences, share opinions and take responsibilities and all these outside school.
Beside the above mentioned things I am also good at organizing events, trips, vacations and moreover trainings for personal development of children and youngsters. So yeah, this is me, Sophie, I am French, I am 24 and I am doing my EVS in Romania, here with Curba de Cultură.
Sunt foarte atașată de mediul rural, chiar provin dintr-o astfel de zonă și consider că a încuraja comunitățile rurale să investească în proprii oameni este ceea ce au ei nevoie pentru a asigura existența comunității. Doresc să împărtășesc experiența pe care o am și abilitățile pe care le dețin în domeniul animației. Cred cu tărie că prin acestea pot contribui la economia socială și dezvoltarea sustenabilă a comunității. Vreau să ofer tinerilor un mediu sigur în care să se poată exprima, să poată visa, să se poată juca, să se poată întâlni, să învețe să accepte differențele, să împărtășească opinii și să își asume responsabilități, și toate înafara școlii.
Pe lângă toate cele menționate mai sus, pot spune că sunt pricepută la a organiza evenimente, drumeții, vacanțe și chiar mai mult, traininguri pentru dezvoltare personală pentru copii și tineri. Dap, asta sunt eu, Sophie, sunt franțuzoaică, am 24 de ani și îmi fac SEV-ul în România la Curba de Cultură.
