Portret de voluntar – Alba (Spania)
I am Alba and I come from the capital of Spain. For the next period I will be doing a monograph of the commune of Izvoarele, an amazing new project organized by Curba de Cultura. The first time I saw the project I knew that I should be part of it because you do not always find an anthropological EVS project that gives you the opportunity to study in deep the culture and society of their area.
I have studied Social and Cultural Anthropology, so definitely I wanted to prove that the humanities and social sciences can help in many ways to our present and future society. Also, before coming here I worked as a steward for a Spanish football club, but I quit my job to do this EVS.
Of course, I love to do other things. I really enjoy traveling around different countries to know a bit more about their society and culture. Also, I like hiking and discover new places; doing almost any kind of physical activity; reading, listening to music and cinema. And last but not least, it is exciting to experience new things, so we will see what happens when someone who comes from a big city goes to a rural area (✿◠‿◠).
Eu sunt Alba și vin chiar din capitala Spaniei. Pentru următoarea perioadă voi lucra la o monografie a comunei Izvoarele, un proiect minunat organizat de Curba de Cultură. Când am văzut proiectul pentru prima data am știu că trebuie să fac parte din el, pentru că nu întotdeauna găsești un SEV pe teme de antropologie care să îți dea ocazia de a studia în detaliu cultura și societatea din regiunea respectivă.
Am studiat Antropologie Socială și Culturală și prin urmare doresc să dovedesc că științele umane și cele sociale pot ajuta în diferite moduri societatea contemporană și chiar viitoare. În plus, înainte de a veni aici am lucrat ca intendent la un club de fotbal spaniol, dar am renunțat la locul de muncă pentru acest proiect.
Bineînțeles că îmi mai plac și altele, ca de exemplu să călătoresc și să descopăr societăți și culturi. Îmi place să mă plimb și să descopăr locuri noi, să fac activități fizice, dar și să citesc, ascult muzică și să vizionez filme.Nu în ultimul rând sunt foarte încântată să experimentez lucruri noi așadar vom vedea ce se va întâmpla când cineva dintr-un oraș mare vine la sat.
Alba este în România pentru o perioadă de 12 luni, din iunie până în mai 2018, în cadrul proiectului Izvoarele Unveiled [2016-3-RO01-KA105-035584] proiect co-finanțat de Uniunea Europeană prin Programul Erasmus+ și implementat în România de către Curba de Cultură.

On Arrival Training
Before this week of On Arrival Training, I didn’t expect that I can discover so many things in a such short time. The OAT took place in Sinaia, not far from Izvoarele, so I was lucky; some of volunteers had about 10 hours by train! This town is very peaceful, with a different architecture than I’ve seen before, between abandoned and fantasy, in the middle of the mountains. We are accommodated in a hotel in the center of Sinaia where each of us had a room for himself. I imagined that it will be very nice to relax and enjoy the swimming pool and sauna for a week. The reality was different!
Înainte de săptămâna cu trainingul la sosire nu credeam că pot descoperi atât de multe lucruri într-un timp atât de scurt. Trainingul s-a desfășurat la Sinaia, nu departe de Izvoarele, deci am avut noroc; unii voluntari au călătorit zece ore cu trenul! Orășelul e foarte liniștit, cu o arhitectură diferită decât ce am văzut până acum, între abandonat și fantasy, în mijlocul munților. Am fost cazați la un hotel în centrul Sinaiei unde fiecare a avut o cameră pentru sine. Mi-am imaginat că va fi foarte relaxant ca pentru o săptămână să mă bucur de piscină și saună. Realitatea a fost cu totul alta!
Each volunteer wanted to learn more about the others and to get most of this training, so we used the rooms just for sleep. The rest of the time was for discussions or walks in the town. The relaxation schedule didn’t match with the training… But I earned more to spend time with others volunteers 😉
In few days I met almost 50 volunteers from 13 different cultures. It’s so amazing! Each volunteer who was there had the same state of mind for the training and EVS. So we had a friendly atmosphere and relationship between each of us. At the end of the week, it was so difficult to leave them. A lot of emotions invaded us in the last day and the last evening was a little sad. So, we planned all places we can visit, and it was very nice.
Fiecare voluntar și-a dorit să afle mai multe despre ceilalți și să profite cât mai mult de acest training, prin urmare ne întorceam în camere doar când ne răpunea oboseala. Restul timpului a fost pentru discuții și plimbări în oraș. Orarul de relaxare nu prea s-a potrivit cu trainingul… Dar am avut mai mult timp să petrec cu alți voluntari 😉
În doar câteva zile am întâlnit 50 de voluntari parte a 13 culturi diferite. A fost uimitor! Fiecare voluntar care a fost acolo a fost în același spirit pentru training și SEV. Prin urmare am avut o atmosferă prietenoasă și relații bune între noi. Iar la final de săptămână a fost așa greu să ne despărțim. O multitudine de emoții ne-au invadat în ultima zi, iar seara a fost choar tristă puțin. Ca să ne înveselim puțin ne-am făcut planuri să ne vizităm unii pe alții.
I had two great trainers, Sonia and Andreea, whom organized a lot of interesting sessions with happiness and humor but also with professionalism. During this week, they gave me several information and advice about my role, challenges and objectives of the EVS, the life in Romania, the way to manage the activities, the role of the mentor, the goal of the Youthpass, the insurance etc. Moreover we had sessions on conflict management, teambuilding, interculturality and culture shock workshops on art & crafts, origami, dance, tourism, history & culture and how to survive Romania. At the end of the week, I had the impression that they succeeded to touch the needs of each volunteer even though we were quite different. This helped to feel good, to regain my confidence and abilities.
Am avut doi trainer minunați, Sonia și Andreea, care au organizat numeroase sesiuni interesante cu multă veselie și umor dar și cu profesionalism. Pe durata acestei săptămâni, m-au ajutat cu informații și sfaturi legate de rolul meu, de provocările și obiectivele SEV, traiul în România, cum să-mi organizez activitățile, rolul mentorului, scopul Youthpass-ului, asigurarea medicală etc. În plus am avut sesiuni despre managerierea conflictelor, lucru în echipă, interculturalitate și șoc cultural, atelier de lucru manual, origami, dans, turism, istorie și cultură și cum să supraviețuiești în România. La finalul săptămânii cred că au reușit să atingă nevoile fiecărui voluntar, chiar dacă suntem cu toții destul de diferiți. Asat m-a ajutat să mă simt bine, să îmi recapăt încrederea și abilitățile.
After this week, I feel different. It’s easier to speak English and I feel less alone in this country. The fact that I know people in lots of places in this country means that I can move when I want to discover it.
The week of On Arrival Training is very important for a volunteer, even necessary. Enjoy this week and the days after, till the end of the EVS.
După această săptămână mă simt diferit. Îmi e mai ușor să vorbesc engleză și mă simt mai puțin singură în această țară. Iar faptul că cunosc oameni aici înseamnă că pot să mișc mai ușor când vreau să o descopăr.
Săptămâna de training la sosire e foarte importantă pentru voluntari, chiar necesară. Bucurați-vă de această săptămână și de zilele de după, până la finalul SEV-ului.

Portret de voluntar – Estelle (Franța)
Hi! I’m Estelle and I am 25. I arrived in Curba de Cultura on the 10th of April and I received a warm welcome by Sorin and Kristina on the first day and the same on the second day by other people. For the moment, I am the only volunteer in the association. It is just a lot of information, foreign languages and news of all sorts. It’s a new life which I start! And I’m really happy to be here for live this experience.
Before coming here, I worked in graphic design and photography. But I quit all I did for another experience as EVS volunteer. It’s THE experience of my life and I think it’s time for me to do what I still desire!
And I don’t know if it will be easy to learn Romanian language, but I will need to learn some words as fast as possible, just to understand people who talk around me. Some words are similar with French and English but very few, unfortunately. I tried to teach romanians some french words but they are a little bit surprised by the pronunciation… I don’t understand why! 😉
Salut! Eu sunt Estelle și am 25 de ani. Am ajuns la Curba de Cultură pe 10 Aprilie și am fost primită călduros de către Sorin și Kristina în prima zi, și am fost trată la fel și în cea de-a doua de alți oameni. Pentru moment sunt singurul voluntar de aici. Am primit multă informație, multă limbi străină și tot felul de noutăți. Încep o viață nouă! Și mă bucur să sunt aici și să trăiesc această experiență.
Înainte de a veni aici am lucrat ca designer grafic și fotograf. Dar am renunțat la tot ce făceam pentru experiența de voluntar SEV. Este Experiența vieții mele și cred că e vremea să fac ceea ce îmi doresc.
Nu știu dacă va fi ușor să învăț română, dar va trebui să învăț câteva cuvinte cât de repede posibil, să înțeleg ce vorbesc oamenii în jurul meu. Unele cuvinte sunt asemănătoare cu cele din franceză sau engleză dar puține, din păcate. Am încercat și îi învăț pe câșiva români cuvinte franțuzești iar ei au fost surprinși de pronunția mea… Nu înțeleg de ce! 😉

We are looking for volunteers to unveil the village of Izvoarele
Starting from June 2017 for one year we will host four volunteers from Italy, Spain, Czech Republic and Slovenia for one year. They will do sociological and anthropological research, they will gather information about crafts and arts in the area as well stories and food recipes. All these will be turned into video, photo and written material which we will use to promote the beautiful community of Izvoarele.
The fact that the people in the community are so hospitable made us think that this can be a great opportunity to collect local legends and pieces of history straight from the villagers and to turn them with the help of the international and local volunteers into tools of promoting the community. During this process, not only that the volunteers will have the chance of feeling and living local culture and getting the sense of multiculturalism but they will also get basic competencies in sociological researches and in creating and implementing promotional campaigns and promotional materials.
We are looking for four volunteers willing to work and live for a year in rural Romania, to experience the lifestyle here and to document it. We guarantee an unforgettable experience. What do you need to have?
- to be between 18 and 30 years old
- to be motivated to do international volunteering
- to be strongly motivated to live and work in rural area
- to be interested in learning a different European language
- to be motivated to develop new competencies and to learn about community development
- to have basic English communication skills, spoken and written
- to be motivated to do research in the community and to create video and text promotional materials out of it
What do we provide:

Call for Belgian volunteers
Curba de Cultură is looking for a Belgian volunteer for six months EVS in Izvoarele, a nice and cozy Romanian village.
Together with our partner CODEC Belgium, we are developing and implementing an EVS for Belgian youngsters who would like to do this service in Romania, starting from spring 2018.
The profile of the volunteer we are looking for:
- motivation to live and work in rural area for 6 months
- motivation to work with youngsters and children
- basic knowledge of English
The activities we propose:
- promoting non-formal learning and volunteering through presentations and activities
- non-formal learning activities with children in schools and with youngsters in the youth centre
- organizing outdoor cinema nights
- managing the library within the youth centre
- organizing foreign language classes and cultural events
- writing articles and blogposts
- reporting and documenting activities
The support we offer:
- accommodation in a traditional Romanian house
- pocket money and budget for food
- phone sim card and monthly credit for it

“Pa, pa” și “Ahoj”
Departure. The very last day in our house was about practicing Tetris in real life. First time when I tried to fit everything what I wanted to take, my backpack was not big enough. Second time I got even some spare space, although I added some gifts. Hah! I knew online Tetris is useful!
Last minutes. Putting four pieces of huge luggage, four small plus two bags of stuff and three people into one car. Managed. Saying goodbye to Fifty Shades. Managed. She ran away, smart girl, she knows that the last words are the hardest. Last trip on our road. Everything what was somehow important for me received my goodbye, like that „Bye bye, strange cute dog.“ And I was waving. „Bye bye, plenty little holes in the road.“ And I was waving. And I had tears in my eyes.
Very last minutes with Sorin and Kristina in Curba, last hugs and kisses. Bus driver in hurry and here I am, heading to Bucharest – never to be EVS volunteer again, hopefully to see my people and places again in future.
Plecare. Ultima zi la noi în casă a fost dedicat practicării tetrisului în viața reală. Prima dată când am încercat să pun în bagaj tot ce voiam să iau, rucsacul meu nu era suficient de mare. A doua oară am obținut chiar niște spațiu liber cu toate că adăugasem niște cadouri. Hah! Știam eu că tetrisul online se va dovedi util!
Ultimele minute. Am pus patru bagaje mari, două mici și trei oameni într-o mașină. Am făcut-o. I-am spus la revedere lui Fifty Shades. Am făcut-o. Ea a fugit, fată deșteaptă, știe că cuvintele de despărțire sunt cele mai grele. Ultima călătorie pe acest drum. Tot ce a fost important pentru mine a primit rămas bun, după modelul “Pa, pa cățeluș străin și drăguț”. Și apoi făceam cu mâna. ” Pa, pa mulțime de gropi de pe drum”. Și am făcut cu mâna. Și aveam lacrimi în ochi.
Cele din urmă minute cu Sorin și Kristina, ultimele îmbrățișări și pupici. Șoferul autobuzului era grăbit și uite-mă în drum spre București – noi voi mai fi vreodată voluntar SEV și sper că voi mai întâlni oamenii mei și aceste locuri în viitor.
First minutes in Czech Republic. „NO! Take me back!“ Nobody listen to my thoughts. First impression: Czech people are so kind! How is that possible?! (We have an image of The Frowning Nation.) I obviously forgot that even strange people can actually smile while speaking. Second impression: Rohlíky. Together with our bread it is the most normal pastry in my country. As my EVS 
mate Eleny missed their Estonian black bread, I missed ours. And we have plastic sacs with handles. Third impression: Nothing has changed. The same buildings, conductor in a train…
Primele minute în Cehia. “NU! Du-mă înapoi” Nimeni nu îmi ascultă gândurile. Prima impresie: cehii sunt atât de drăguți! Cum e posibil? (Suntem portretizați drept o națiune încruntată). Evident că am uitat că până și străinii pot să zâmbească atunci când vorbesc. A doua impresie: rohliky. Împreună cu pâinea noastră, e poate cel mai faimos produs de panificație de la noi din țară. Precum colega mea de EVS, Eleny ia- dus dorul pâinii negre estoniene, așa mi-a lipsit și mie. Și avem pungi de plastic cu mânere. A treia impresie: nimic nu s-a schimbat. Aceleași clădiri, același conductor de tren…
Fifth impression: Whole world is under a big cloud and covered with decimetres of snow (Nope, Romania have not seen cloudy sky for weeks and snow melted or vapourated.) Sixth impression: Everything is different! Where is my bakery and the 
butchery next to it? Why is Billa there?! Where has my favourite second-hand shop disappeared? Seventh impression: Snow! Snow! Snow!
A cincea impresie: totul este sub un mare nor și acoperit cu decimetri de zăpadă (nu, România nu a văzut asemenea cer înnorat săptămâni întregi, iar zăpada s-a topit sau evaporat). A șasea impresie: Totul e diferit. Unde este brutăria mea preferată și cu măcelăria de lângă? De ce este Billa acolo? Unde a dispărut magazinul meu second-hand favorit? A șaptea impresie: Zăpadă! Zăpadă! Zăpadă!
Eight impression: The best lunch ever: chlebíček = „sandwich“ with super 
unhealthy salami spread, slice of a boiled egg, ham and pickled cucumber. First morning: I woke up in my friend bed, turned my head and there she was. Happily sleeping just next to me.
First evening: For the first time I tried to cook our traditional meal, svíčková (in a funny way can be translated as Candle Sauce, but it is about dumplings, beef and cream-vegetable sauce). It was excellent!
A opta impresie: cel mai bun prânz din totdeauna: chlebíček= un sendviș cu o pastă de salam supersărată, cu felii de ou fiert, șuncă și castravete murat. Prima dimineață: M-am trezit în patul prietenei mele, mi-am întors privirea și ea era acolo. Dormind fericită lângă mine.
Prima seară: pentru prima dată am gătit felul nostru tradițional svíčková (într-un mod amuzant poate fi tradus drept sos de lumânări, dar e cu găluște, vită și sos de smântână și legume). A fost excelent!

La revedere România!
I arrived to Romania six months ago, in the beginning of August and now my EVS finished. I arrived with summer and I leave with winter. I arrived with smile on my face with hope to make something good, to discover myself and now I’m here with a mix of feelings, surprised, impressed, happy, sad and many more. I’m making my luggage and I am thinking of all the things that I’ve made here, of all the people that I’ve met.
Looking back… before coming here I’ve never worked in a school. But it was fantastic! I was afraid to work alone at the beginning, but after, I decided to fight against my fear and I did it. I made my own workshops and every time they were an amazing experience. Alone or in a group I loved every activity and I loved to see them happy. It was the best gift that someone can receive. Those moments of happiness helped me overcome problems and sadness. During my EVS I lived lots of different experiences: beautiful moments and bad ones, happy and sad one, sunny days and rainy days, easy moments and hard ones, accompanied or alone. But I met people and they became my friends and… this is life.
Looking back I feel that I am changed, I know myself better and I am proud of my work here. This chapter of my life, which changed me is almost closed, but I’m happy and it was great.
I’m sad to leave, but we will meet again Romania, we will meet again my friends, we will meet again my other family… “La revedere”!
Am sosit în România acum șase luni, la începutul lui august iar acum SEV-ul meu s-a terminat. Am sosit vara și plec iarna. Am sosit cu un zâmbet pe față, cu speranța de a face ceva bun, de a mă descoperi pe mine însumi și acum sunt aici cu niște sentiment amestecate, surprins, impresionat, fericit, trist și multe altele. Îmi fac bagajul și mă gândesc la toate lucrurile pe care le-am făcut aici, la toți oamenii pe care i-am întâlnit.
Uitându-mă în urmă… înainte de a veni aici nu am lucrat niciodată într-o școală. Dar a fost fantastic! Mi-a fost teamă să lucrez singur la început, dar după aceea am decis să mă împotrivesc fricii și am făcut-o. Mi-am susținut propriile ateliere și de fiecare dată au fost niște experiențe minunate. Singur sau în grup am adorat fiecare activitate și am adorat să îi văd fericiți. A fost cel mai bun dar pe care cineva îl poate primi. Acele momente de fericire m-au ajutat să trec peste probleme și tristețe. De-a lungul SEV-ului meu am trecut prin numeroase experiențe: momente frumoase și mai puțin frumoase, momente fericite și triste, zile cu soare și zile cu ploaie, momente ușoare și mai grele, în singurătate sau în compania cuiva. Dar am întâlnit oameni care au devenit prietenii mei… așa e viața.
Uitându-mă în urmă simt că m-am schimbat, mă cunosc mai bine și sunt mândru de munca mea aici. Acest capitol al vieții mele, care m-a schimbat aproape s-a încheiat, dar mă bucur că a fost unul minunat.
Sunt trist că plec, dar ne vom întâlni din nou România, ne vom întâlni din nou prieteni, ne vom întâlni din nou cealaltă familie… La revedere!

“Okay.. first day is over. My flights were okay, but so exhausting. I arrived to Romania. Thinking in my head: what did you do. Then I saw my name on the paper and it was Sorin who picked me up from the airport. I thought he was taller, when I was talking with him on skype. 😀 We made some round in Bucharest and we had long drive to Izvoarele youth center. OMG.. people were waiting for me. They had a big sign.. So awesome. First time that people made me that kind of stuff. Okay, I looked around and it was nice. Totally fine. Then we went to my new home. OMG… Roads are so bad; the place is so different, where am I… How can I survive here 5 months???”
Okay… prima zi s-a terminat. Zborurile mele au fost în regulă, dar epuizante. Am sosit în România. În mintea mea: ce-ai făcut? Apoi mi-am văzut numele pe o hârtie și Sorin a fost cel care m-a luat de la aeroport. Mi s-a părut a fi mai înalt când am discutat pe skype 😀 Am făcut un tur al Bucureștiului și am avut un drum lung spre Izvoarele spre centrul de tineret. OMG… oamenii mă așteptau. Aveau un semn mare… A fost așa mișto. A fost pentru prima dată când cineva a făcut asemenea lucruri pentru mine. M-am uitat împreujur și era drăguț. Chiar bine. Apoi am mers spre noua mea casă. OMG… drumul era așa de rău, locul atât de diferit, unde sunt… Cum voi supraviețui aici 5 luni?

“I love it here. We had today our cultural evening where we talked about our countries. We did it outside. So many people who were just walking pass, wanted to come and hear us. And there was sooo much foooood!!!
PS! I got new nickname: Neneny! Soooo cooool “
Îmi place la nebunie aici. Am avut astăzi o seară înterculturală în care am vorbit despre țările noastre. Și am ținut-o afară. Mulți oameni care doar erau în trecere au dorit să vină și să ne audă. Și a fost așa multă mâncare!
P.S! Am primit și o poreclă: Neneny! Așa de mișto!

“Sorin picked us up and we went to Homoraciu school. We made there Halloween workshop. It is so fun to make handicraft with students.
Wow.. And after that we went to Curba to meet our mentor. It was really good talking with her, to talk about everything what is happening. And after that we just went home and we did nothing. Nice huh… Aaa.. and each day at somewhere six all the cows are coming home… This is a view :D“
Sorin ne-a luat azi să mergem la școală în Homorâciu. Am organizat acolo un atelier de Haloween. A fost foarte amuzant să facem lucru manual cu elevii. Wow… după aceea ne-am întors la Curba unde ne-am întâlnit cu mentorul. A fost așa bine să vorbesc cu ea despre tot ce se întâmplă. Iar apoi am mers acasă și nu am făcut nimic. Drăguț nu? Ăăă… și în fiecare zi pe la șase se întorc vacile de la pășune… E o imagine de văzut 😀

“Whaat! I have free day today. Me and Anna went to Valeni to buy some food. And also I had a dream this night that my house is on fire… what a dream, what does it mean? Anyway we went to the shop and I already got some souvenirs for my family. That’s so cool. Then we went back to Schiulesti with a bus. OMG… it was soo full, so tiny bus and so full. At home I watched some movies. I like that I have time to watch some movies“
Cee? Am zi liberă azi. Eu și Anna am mers la Văleni să cumpărăm mâncare. De asemenea am visat că era casa în flăcări… ce vis, ce-o fi însemnând? oricum, am mers la magazin și am luat chiar niște suveniruri pentru familia mea. Și e așa mișto. Apoi ne-am întors în Schiulești cu autobuzul. OMG… a fost așa de plin, un autobuz atât de mic și așa de plin. Acasă m-am uitat la niște filme. Îmi place faptul că am timp să văd și filme.

“Eee… I didn’t do nothing in the morning but after that it was awesome. Me, Anna and Karel went to Cernesti to look around and we met some guys, who were nicely dressed and they had a big Christmas tree on their horse cart. What… You can see that kind of stuff only in Romania.
Then we went to Valeni to buy some food for our new years eve and also we picked up Marija the Estonian. Then back and we had really long cooking time. Coool… lot of food. And then some crazy people want to come in our garden and sing us some songs in Romanian. Wow… this was scary. I was hiding from them… 😀 like literally… But our new year eve inside of our house was really quiet and nice, candlelight and that kind off stuff… 00:00 we went out to see some fireworks and went in the center and we had chance to try whip because there were our students from school . My dream came true to try that 😀 COOL NEW YEARS EVE! But what happens in Romania, stays in Romania. :D”
Eee… nu am făcut mai nimic de dimineață dar apoi a fost grozav. Eu, Ann și Karel am mers în Cernești să vedem satul și am întâlnit niște oameni îmbrăcați frumos și care aveau un brad de Crăciun în căruță. Ce… Poți vedea așa ceva doar în România.
Apoi am mers la Văleni să facem niște cumpărături pentru Anul Nou și am luat-o pe Marija, o altă fată din Estonia. Apoi ne-am întors și a fost foarte plăcut să gătim împreună. Coool… o grămadă de mâncare. Iar apoi niște oameni au vrut să vină la noi în curte și să ne încânte cu tradiții de Anul Nou. Wow… a fost înfricoșător. Eu m-am ascuns… 😀 pe bune vorbesc… Și apoi de Anul Nou în casa noastră a fost plăcut și liniștit, cu lumânări și cu tot felul de alte chestii… La 00:00 am ieșit să vedem artificiile și am mers în centru unde am avut ocazia să pușcăm din bici pentru că acolo erau elevii de la școala pe care o vizităm. Visul meu a devenit realitate. UN REVELION GROZAV! Dar ce se întâmplă în România, rămâne în România.

Call for a Polish Volunteer
Curba de Cultură is looking for a Polish volunteer for a six months EVS in Izvoarele, a nice and cozy Romanian village.
Curba de Cultură focuses on teenagers and youth development. Our mission is to use non-formal education as a complementary method to the formal educational system for young people. We want to create the premises for a better development of the young people and their more suited integration within their respective communities. We want to make young people aware that they actively belong to their local and national culture.
We are looking for an 18-30 years old volunteer who has:
– motivation to live and work in rural area
– motivation to work with youngsters and children
– basic knowledge of English
The activities the volunteer would do, in a team, not alone, are:
– promoting non-formal learning and volunteering through presentations and activities
– non-formal learning activities with children in schools and with youngsters in the youth centre
– managing the library within the youth centre
– organizing foreign language classes and cultural events
– writing articles and blogposts
– reporting and documenting activities
Being an Erasmus+ project the volunteer would also receive:
– accommodation in a traditional Romanian house (but with wi-fi :P)
– pocket money and budget for food
– bus permits for local transport
– phone sim cards and monthly credit for it
– international travel costs up to 275 EUR reimbursed in the end of the stay
– Romanian language classes
– mentor support for personal development
– coordinator support for implementing activities
– complete medical insurance through Cigna Insurrance Plan
– Youthpass certificate
– two international trainings provided by the Romanian National Agency
– one internal training for nonformal education methods and communication techniques

Human Library – Biblioteca Vie
Few weeks ago I thought this post will be about another trip around Romania, but… I was sick. And then again. But nobody wants to read about sweat, pain and doctors, who left their professional competences far away behind their office, right? So, I decided to change the topic, instead of What I did during my holidays I want to tell you something about Sun, happiness and angels. Yeap, I am a bit sarcastic. Let´s be a bit more serious. I was considering the nicest thing what happened in last weeks or months: my boyfriend arrived, I got a job in Czech Republic, our yard is one big ice ring, I found gloves on a street… Not really readable things. But Human Library! That is a different story!
Acum câteva săptămâni am crezut că voi scrie despre o nouă călătorie prin România, dar am fost răcită… o dată, și încă o dată. Și cum nimeni nu vrea să citească despre transpirație, durere și doctori am decis să schimb puțin subiectul și în loc de ce am făcut în vacanță vreau să vă povestesc despre soare, fericire și îngeri. Sunt puțin sarcastică, dar voi fi ceva mai serioasă. Așadar am început să listez cele mai bune lucruri care s-au întâmplat în ultima vreme: m-a vizitat prietenul meu, am obținut o slujbă acasă în Cehia, avem patinoar în curte, am găsit niște mănuși pe stradă… parcă nu sunt tocmai chestii de povestit. Dar Biblioteca Vie! Asta e o poveste într-adevăr.
What is it? Human Library is based on somehow experienced people (books) who share their story (book story) with one or two other people 
(readers) in time. As the official web page says, it “is designed to build a positive framework for conversations that can challenge stereotypes and prejudices through dialogue”, usually in collaboration with “Books” who are subjects of those – people of different culture, HIV possitve, alcoholic, with ADHD, homeless, with autism etc.
Ce anume e Biblioteca Vie? E un eveniment bazate pe oameni care doresc să împărtășească experiențe (cărți) cu una sau două persoane (cititori). După cum zice și site-ul oficial ” a fost gândit să construiască un cadru de conversație pozitiv care aduce în dialog stereotipuri și prejudecăți” de obicei cărțile sunt persoane care au trecut prin diferite experiențe (culturi diferite, seropozitivi, alcoolic, ADHD, oameni fărăr adăpost, autiști etc)
Because Romania, especially its rural parts, does not really know what to understand under the word “volunteer” and it is easily connected with the old communistic picture of it, Curba de Cultură decided that on 5th December (the International Volunteering Day) to organize a Human Library about volunteering. The Books were Romanian volunteers which returned from international projects and us, EVS volunteers. In a local, cozy pub we had Librarians, local young volunteers who introduced the Readers (incoming guests) to the list of books. Reader then chose the one he was the most interested in and they sat down in a more private table, where the Book said its story and Reader could ask questions.
I have to say that it was very nice experience with very nicely organized
event. Although we did not have dozens of Readers, those who came got the best service. I told my story twice, first time to a woman for whom were my words translated, which was super interesting – to shorten my story and try to keep its line. The other reader was a young man and my story was suddenly different. No need of translation, different sex, age and questions. The first time it was a life of a girl, me, who had harder childhood, worked on herself, fell in love and ended up with her love. The second time it was a life of a girl, who was trying to cut her family ties so badly, that she was determined to fail every single time.
Deoarece în România și mai ales în zonele rurale nu prea se înțelege sensul termenului “voluntar” și este adesea legat de sensul pe care regimul comunist i l-a dat, Curba de Cultură a decis ca pe 5 decembrie, de Ziua Internațională a Voluntariatului să organizeze o Bibliotecă Vie despre voluntariat. Cărțile au fost voluntari români care s-au întors din stagii internaționale și noi, voluntarii SEV. Într-o cafenea confortabilă a fost organizată biblioteca, cu bibliotecari – tineri voluntari locali care au ajutau cititorii (musafirii) să aleagă cărți, cu cititori care mai apoi au ales cărți și împreună cu care au stat de vorbă la o masă mai retrasă. Cărțile își spunea poveștile iar cititorii puteau întreba. Trebuie să admit că a fost o experiență minunată într-un eveniment bine organizat.Chiar dacă nu am avut o mulțime de cititori, cei care au venit au avut parte de cel mai bun tratament. Mi-am spus povestea de două ori, prima dată unei femei iar vorbele mele au fost traduse ceea ce a făcut totul mult mai interesant fiind nevoietă să îmi schimb povestea și să îi păstrez liniaritatea. Cea de-a doua oară cititorul meu a fost un tânăr, iar povestea mea a fost diferită. Nu a fost nevoie de traducere, cititorul a fost de sex diferit, vârstă diferită și a avut ăntrebări diferite. Prima dată a fost povestea unei fete, eu, care a avut o copilărie grea, care a muncit pentru ea, s-a îndrăgostit și a rămas cu iubitul ei. A doua oară a fost povestea unei fete care și-a dorit atât de mult să se îndepărteze de familia ei încât nu a contat că a eșuat de fiecare dată.
I saw that life can have any shape or form, depending on who you talk with and what you do (not) want to mention or point out. It means that simply by focusing on the positive things, there is a big probability to change your life in a good way. At least from outside.
Am văzut că viața poate avea orice formă, depinde de persoana cu care vorbești și de ce vrei să menționeză sau să lași deoparte. Doar concentrându-te pe lucruri pozitive există deja o mare probabilitate a lucrurile să ia o turnură pozitivă. Cel puțin din exterior.
