Portret de voluntar – Lucia (Olanda)

Hallo everyone,

It is so nice to meet you! My name is Lucia and I am 21 years old. In January I finished my Bachelor’s degree of the Dutch language, which also happens to be the official language of my home country The Netherlands (or Holland, as you might know it). Afterwards, I suddenly got 7 months of free time before starting a Master’s degree. So why not do something special with it instead of staying home?

Ever since the age of 15, I have been dreaming about living in another country for a while. Not just going there on a two weeks holiday and running from tourist attraction to tourist attraction, but actually living and studying or working there for months. My dream was to get to know a different culture from the inside out by becoming one of the inhabitants of the country and learning the language. I wanted to actually dó something instead of traveling around, which is why I signed up for the European Solidarity Corps. On their website was a message about a project of Curba de Cultura, with the goal of promoting the local Youth Hostel and local development. Since I have done a minor in Communication and Information Sciences, it seemed like a good fit.

So here I am now, isolated in a country that is completely new to me. I don’t know the language, the area, the culture, and the people. But I can’t wait to find out and learn all about it in the months to come!

Îmi face plăcere să vă cunosc! Numele meu este Lucia și am 21 de ani. In ianuarie am terminat facultatea de limbă olandeză, care se întâmplă să fie și limba oficială a țării (Olanda – după cum i se spune aici). După aceea, dintr-o dată m-am trezit cu 7 luni de timp liber până îmi încep masteratul. Deci, de ce să nu fac ceva special decât să stau acasă?

Încă de când aveam 15 ani, am visat sa trăiesc într-o altă țară. Nu doar să merg în vacanță acolo temporar și să dau peste tot felul de atracții turistice, ci să trăiesc, să studiez și să lucrez acolo pentru câteva luni. Am vrut să pot cunoaște o nouă cultură, devenind unul din cetățenii țării și să învăț o limbă diferită. Am vrut să fac și puține călătorii, deaceea m-am înscris la Corpul European de Solidaritate. Pe siteul lor am dat de un mesaj despre un proiect la Curba de Cultură, care avea ca scop promovarea unui Hostel de tineri și dezvoltare locală. Din moment ce am făcut cursuri în comunicare și știință informațională, părea să fie o potrivire perfectă.

Deci, aici sunt, în izolare într-o țară complet nouă mie. Nu cunosc limba, zona, cultura, nici oamenii. Însă deabia aștept sa descopăr și să învăț totul în lunile ce vor urma!
