But how to be sure to be protected from those difficult situations?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As youth workers, we are passionate about supporting and empowering young people, especially those facing mental health challenges. However, in our dedication to helping others, it&#8217;s essential not to overlook our own well-being. Working with youth who are navigating mental health issues can be emotionally demanding and draining. To ensure we can continue to provide effective support, it&#8217;s crucial for youth workers to prioritize self-care.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some strategies to help protect ourselves while working with young people facing mental health issues:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\" start=\"1\">\n<li>Establish Boundaries: Set clear boundaries between your personal and professional life. It&#8217;s important to have designated times for work and time for relaxation and personal activities. Avoid overcommitting yourself and learn to say no when necessary.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Seek Supervision and Support: Regular supervision sessions with a supervisor or mentor can provide a safe space to debrief and process challenging situations. Don&#8217;t hesitate to reach out for support from colleagues, friends, or professional networks when needed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Practice Active Listening: When working with young people, practice active listening without taking on their emotional burden. Validate their feelings and experiences, but remind yourself that you are there to support and guide them, not to solve all their problems.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maintain Professional Boundaries: While it&#8217;s essential to build trust and rapport with young people, it&#8217;s equally important to maintain professional boundaries.
