[EN]\u00a0 Embarking on an environmental volunteering project is something very personal. This is not a regular job that I do from 8 to 5 and forget about it for the rest of the day. It reflects my values, my desired way of life. Therefore, when I came to Romania and started working on this project, I also started thinking about my daily life and my routines. And I discovered plenty of situations where I was behaving unsustainably, because of routines that I follow without thinking, and things I do out of laziness or comfort or because I simply don\u2019t know any other solution. And so, I started observing and changing small things in my daily life. At first it seemed to be a big deal to change routines, but if done in the right way, step by step the new behaviour becomes the routine, and things are getting done automatically.<\/p>\n

But let\u2019s keep it concrete, and stick to some examples from my daily life here in Izvoarele.<\/p>\n

\"\"When I moved in, recycling was something that was done, but not well done. The closest recycling bins are 700 meters away, so it was easier to throw most of the stuff into the wet waste, which is collected once a week. All you have to do is to put the container on the street. And although I was used to recycling back home in Portugal, I found myself adapting to my housemates\u2019 behaviour. When the commune introduced the blue bags for plastic and metal that are collected every two weeks, we took it as an impetus to rethink our household and started separating wet waste, organic, blue bag, glass and paper. All it took was to think a bit about what waste we produce and where in the house.<\/p>\n

The main stake of our waste is produced while cooking\/eating, so placing the organic waste and recycling bins in the kitchen or nearby makes sense. If they are on the other side of the house, the trash is more likely to end in the wet waste that is handily located under the sink. After all, in our daily routines we intuitively do the easiest and most comfortable thing.<\/p>\n

\"\"We have a dog, so it makes sense to have a bin for the empty food cans and bags somewhere near the feeding bowl. In the rooms, the trash mainly consists of old papers and bills, so we put small boxes for paper there. We also put a box in the bathroom for the empty toilet paper rolls. Once we figured where to put which bins, recycling became an easy task, a natural routine.<\/p>\n

Some of the materials we consider waste are actually reusable. For example, whenever I am going somewhere and need to take something to drink, I fill a glass bottle with tap water. And we save all the jars, wash them and put jam or other stuff inside. Paper is saved to start fire in the ovens in winter, carton boxes are used for shopping and to collect fruits.<\/p>\n

As we decided to collect our organic waste separately, the question arose of what to do with it as there is no separate collection of organic waste in Romania (currently, in only 8 European countries organic waste is collected by the communes\u00a0[1]). But as we live on the countryside and have a big garden, we decided to start composting.<\/p>\n

\"\"Our garden has some fruit trees, and lately we have been flooded with pears, apples and prunes. Adrianna started to make jam and compote out of them. And there is no reason why we shouldn\u2019t: it\u2019s free, it\u2019s healthy, it\u2019s tasty. But well, it requires work. And when Adrianna left, no one took over this task, so that a lot of the fruits were just rotting on the ground. At some point we started picking them up and storing them in the basement (hoping that it is cold and dry enough) and we figured out that it is not that hard to handle them. There are plenty of ways to make them storable: besides jam and compote, we can make dry fruits, juice, pies…<\/p>\n

Not everyone has the garden, the patience or the time to grow their own food, but still we can be aware of what we eat and ask ourselves if it is worth buying imported products if there are national, even local ones available. Buying local products reduces the pollution from transport, besides helping the local economy. And so, slowly I grew the habit of checking the labels to see where the products come from. And at one point I decided to buy only fruits and vegetables grown in Romania, and after a while I extended this to dairy products and meat. I also started to go to the market and the butcher, as there the chances are higher to get local products.\"\"<\/p>\n

Another important part of our daily routines is the way to work. In Portugal I mainly used the bicycle in my daily life, but in Izvoarele the roads are either full of traffic or in a desolate state. But walking to work turned out to be a good option as well, it frees my mind and it is healthy both for me and for the environment.<\/p>\n

Of course, there are a lot more things that I can change in my daily life. My next goal is to reduce the amount of plastic waste I produce, so I will start bringing my own bags to the market, looking for eco-friendlier packaged products, and so on.<\/p>\n

\u00cembarcarea \u00eentr-un proiect de voluntariat \u00een domeniul mediului e ceva foarte personal. \u0102sta nu este un loc de munc\u0103 obi\u0219nuit la care m\u0103 duc de la 8 la 5 \u0219i de care uit pentru restul zilei. \u00cemi reflect\u0103 valorile, felul de via\u021b\u0103 pe care doresc s\u0103 \u00eel tr\u0103iesc. A\u0219adar, c\u00e2nd am venit \u00een Rom\u00e2nia \u0219i am \u00eenceput s\u0103 lucrez la acest proiect, am \u00eenceput de asemenea s\u0103 m\u0103 g\u00e2ndesc la via\u021ba mea de zi cu zi \u0219i la rutinele mele. \u0218i am descoperit o mul\u021bime de situa\u021bii unde m\u0103 comportam nesustenabil, din cauza unor rutine pe care le aveam f\u0103r\u0103 s\u0103 m\u0103 g\u00e2ndesc la ele, \u0219i lucruri pe care le fac din lene sau comfort\u00a0 sau pentru c\u0103 pur \u0219i simplu nu \u0219tiu alt\u0103 solu\u021bie. \u0218i deci, am \u00eenceput s\u0103 observ \u0219i s\u0103 schimb mici lucruri \u00een via\u021ba mea de zi cu zi. La \u00eenceput a p\u0103rut s\u0103 fie mare lucru s\u0103 schimb rutine, dar dac\u0103 e f\u0103cut \u00een modul potrivit, pas cu pas noul comportament devine rutin\u0103, iar lucrurile sunt f\u0103cute automat.<\/p>\n

Dar s\u0103 o \u021binem concret, \u0219i s\u0103 r\u0103m\u00e2nem pe ni\u0219te exemple din via\u021ba mea de zi cu zi aici \u00een Izvoarele.<\/p>\n

\"\"C\u00e2nd m-am mutat aici, reciclarea era ceva ce se f\u0103cea, dar nu se f\u0103cea bine. Cele mai apropiate co\u0219uri de reciclare sunt la 700 de metri dep\u0103rtare, a\u0219a c\u0103 era mai u\u0219or s\u0103 arunc majoritatea lucrurilor \u00een gunoiul menajer, care este colectat o dat\u0103 pe s\u0103pt\u0103m\u00e2n\u0103. Tot ce trebuie s\u0103 faci este s\u0103 pui containerul pe strad\u0103. \u0218i de\u0219i eram obi\u0219nuit cu reciclarea acas\u0103 \u00een Portugalia, am \u00eenceput s\u0103 m\u0103 adaptez la comportamentul celor cu care locuiam. Tot ce a fost nevoie a fost s\u0103 ne g\u00e2ndim pu\u021bin la ce gunoi producem \u0219i unde anume \u00een cas\u0103.<\/p>\n

Cea mai mare por\u021biune din gunoiul nostru este produs g\u0103tind\/m\u00e2nc\u00e2nd, a\u0219a c\u0103 s\u0103 pozi\u021bion\u0103m de\u0219eurile organice \u0219i co\u0219urile de reciclare \u00een buc\u0103t\u0103rie sau \u00een apropiere are sens. Dac\u0103 se afl\u0103 \u00een cealalt\u0103 parte a casei, gunoiul e mult mai probabil s\u0103 ajung\u0103 \u00een gunoiul menajar care e localizat la \u00eendem\u00e2n\u0103 sub chiuvet\u0103. La urma urmelor, \u00een rutina noastr\u0103 zilnic\u0103 facem intuitiv cel mai u\u0219or \u0219i mai comfortabil lucru.<\/p>\n

\"\"Avem un c\u00e2ine, a\u0219a c\u0103 are sens s\u0103 avem un co\u0219 pentru conservele \u0219i pungile goale de m\u00e2ncare undeva l\u00e2ng\u0103 bolul unde \u00eel hr\u0103nim. \u00cen camere, gunoiul e constituit \u00een principal din h\u00e2rtii vechi \u0219i facturi, a\u0219a c\u0103 am pus mici cutii pentru h\u00e2rtie acolo. Am pus de asemenea o cutie \u00een baie pentru\u00a0rolele goale de h\u00e2rtie igienic\u0103. Odat\u0103 ce ne-am dat seama unde s\u0103 punem care co\u0219uri, reciclarea a devenit o sarcin\u0103 u\u0219oar\u0103, o rutin\u0103 ce ne vine \u00een mod natural.<\/p>\n

Unele din materialele pe care le consider\u0103m gunoi sunt de fapt refolosibile. Spre exemplu, de fiecare dat\u0103 c\u00e2nd merg undeva \u0219i am nevoie s\u0103 iau ceva de b\u0103ut, umplu o sticl\u0103 de sticl\u0103 cu ap\u0103 de la robinet. \u0218i p\u0103str\u0103m toate borcanele, le sp\u0103l\u0103m \u0219i punem gem sau alte lucruri \u00een\u0103untru. H\u00e2rtia este p\u0103strat\u0103 pentru a porni focuri \u00een sobe iarna, cutiile de carton sunt folosite pentru cump\u0103r\u0103turi \u0219i pentru a colecta fructe.<\/p>\n

Av\u00e2nd \u00een vedere c\u0103 am decis s\u0103 ne colect\u0103m de\u0219eurile organice separat, a r\u0103s\u0103rit \u00eentrebarea ce s\u0103 facem cu ele av\u00e2nd \u00een vedere c\u0103 nu exist\u0103 colectare separat\u0103 a de\u0219eurilor organice \u00een Rom\u00e2nia\u00a0 (\u00een mod curent, \u00een doar 8 \u021b\u0103ri Europene de\u0219eurile organice sunt colectate de autorit\u0103\u021bi locale [1]). Dar cum locuim la \u021bar\u0103 \u0219i avem o gr\u0103din\u0103 mare, am decis s\u0103 \u00eencepem s\u0103 facem compost.<\/p>\n

\"\"Gr\u0103dina noastr\u0103 are ni\u0219te pomi fructiferi, \u0219i \u00een ultima vreme am fost inunda\u021bi cu pere, mere \u0219i prune. Adrianna a \u00eenceput s\u0103 fac\u0103 gem \u0219i compot din ele. \u0218i nu e nici un motiv pentru care nu am face: e gratis, e s\u0103n\u0103tos, e gustos. Dar, \u00eens\u0103, necesit\u0103 munc\u0103. \u0218i c\u00e2nd Adrianna a plecat, nimeni nu a preluat aceast\u0103 sarcin\u0103, a\u0219a c\u0103 o gr\u0103mad\u0103 din fructe pur \u0219i simplu putrezeau pe jos. La un moment dat am \u00eenceput s\u0103 le adun\u0103m \u0219i s\u0103 le depozit\u0103m \u00een pivni\u021b\u0103 (sper\u00e2nd c\u0103 e suficient de rece \u0219i uscat) \u0219i ne-am dat seama c\u0103 nu e a\u0219a greu s\u0103 ne ocup\u0103m de ele. Exist\u0103 destule feluri prin care s\u0103 le facem depozitabile: pe l\u00e2ng\u0103 gem \u0219i compot, putem face fructe uscate, suc, pl\u0103cinte…<\/p>\n

Nu toat\u0103 lumea are gr\u0103dina, r\u0103bdarea sau timpul s\u0103 \u00ee\u0219i creasc\u0103 propria m\u00e2ncare, \u00eens\u0103 tot putem fi con\u0219tien\u021bi de ceea ce m\u00e2nc\u0103m \u0219i ne putem \u00eentreba dac\u0103 merit\u0103 s\u0103 cump\u0103r\u0103m produse importate\u00a0 dac\u0103 sunt unele na\u021bionale, chiar locale disponibile. Cump\u0103ratul de produse locale reduce poluarea din transport, pe l\u00e2ng\u0103 c\u0103 ajut\u0103 economia local\u0103. \u0218i a\u0219adar, \u00eenceti\u0219or am dezvoltat obiceiul de a verifica etichetele pentru a vedea de unde vin produsele. La un moment dat am decis s\u0103 cump\u0103r doar fructe \u0219i legume crescute \u00een Rom\u00e2nia, \u0219i dup\u0103 o vreme am extins asta \u0219i la produse lactate \u0219i carne. Am \u00eenceput de asemenea s\u0103 m\u0103 duc la pia\u021b\u0103 \u0219i la m\u0103celar, \u0219ansele de a g\u0103si produse locale fiind mai mari acolo.<\/p>\n

\"\"O alt\u0103 parte important\u0103 din rutina noastr\u0103 zilnic\u0103 este drumul c\u0103tre munc\u0103. \u00cen Portugalia foloseam \u00een principal bicicleta \u00een via\u021ba mea de zi cu zi, dar \u00een Izvoarele drumurile sunt ori pline de trafic ori \u00eentr-o stare proast\u0103. Desigur, mai sunt multe lucruri pe care le pot schimba \u00een via\u021ba mea de zi cu zi. Urm\u0103torul meu \u021bel este s\u0103 reduc cantitatea de de\u0219euri din plastic pe care o produc, a\u0219a c\u0103 voi \u00eencepe s\u0103 \u00eemi aduc propriile pungi la magazin, m\u0103 voi uita dup\u0103 produse ambalate mai prietenoase cu mediul (eco-friendly), \u0219i a\u0219a mai departe.<\/p>\n
