Step #1: Milk the cow<\/p>\n

It\u2019s 8 in the morning in Izvoarele. Kristina<\/a>, Zenaida (our favourite Romanian anthropology student) and I are on our way to tanti P\u0103pu\u015fa\u2019s house. The \u201ctantis\u201d are local aunties that we have been visiting in order to learn about traditional activities in the village for our project Izvoarele Unveiled. This particular tanti is a skilled carpet-maker and also the owner of a cow. Kristina is very<\/i> excited about meeting the cow today.<\/p>\n

Tanti P\u0103pu\u015fa lets us wear her cow-milking uniform – a big apron and crocs – but in spite of being fully equipped we are still pretty bad at it. The cow is not used to being touched by us and is probably a little nervous, says P\u0103pu\u015fa.<\/p>\n

Step #2: Lose the cow<\/p>\n

Next step is taking the cow to the pasture. Once we get there, however, the field is empty. Weird. The cow seems upset and so is Kristina, who is now her best friend. Meanwhile, up the road comes a herd of goats. While P\u0103pu\u015fa asks the goat-boy to call his colleague the cow-boy to ask why he is not in the usual place, his dogs start barking after the cow and scare her away. Huh-oh. Luckily, the cow doesn\u2019t go too far and we are pretty confident we will catch her in no time. After all, it\u2019s not like cows are fast runners or anything like that, right?<\/p>\n

WRONG.<\/p>\n

Step #3: Keep calm and trust your tanti<\/p>\n

The cow is too fast and too smart for us to catch her. We start despairing a little, especially as the locals have been talking about a bear in the forest nearby. But tanti P\u0103pu\u015fa is dealing with the situation like a boss, keeping a stoic attitude and looking for a trail in the grass. We have no idea where we are going but the tanti seems to know what she\u2019s doing and we trust her. Eventually, we meet the cow on a road where we\u2019ve never been before. She recognizes her mistress and lets her lead the way to the pasture. Disaster averted! Finally we can relax and wait for our cart ride home.<\/p>\n

Pasul #1: Mulsul vacii<\/p>\n

E 8 diminea\u021ba \u00een Izvoarele. Kristina, Zenaida (studentul nostru favorit rom\u00e2n la antropologie) \u0219i eu suntem pe drum spre casa lu’ tanti P\u0103pu\u0219a. Aceste tanti sunt localnice pe care le-am vizitat pentru a descoperi mai multe despre activit\u0103\u021bile tradi\u021bionale ale satului pentru proiectul nostru Izvoarele Unveiled. Aceast\u0103 tanti este foarte priceput\u0103 la \u021besutul covoarelor \u0219i mai are \u0219i o vac\u0103. Kristina este super<\/em> \u00eenc\u00e2ntat\u0103 s\u0103 \u00eent\u00e2lneasc\u0103 vaca, azi.<\/p>\n

Tanti P\u0103pu\u0219a ne las\u0103 s\u0103 purt\u0103m uniforma ei de muls vaca – un capot mare \u0219i croc\u0219i – \u00eens\u0103 chiar dac\u0103 suntem echipa\u021bi tot nu ne pricepem. Vaca nu e obi\u0219nuit\u0103 s\u0103 fie atins\u0103 de noi \u0219i este probabil agitat\u0103, zice P\u0103pu\u0219a.<\/p>\n

Pasul #2\u00a0 Pierdutul vacii<\/p>\n

Pasul urm\u0103tor este dusul vacii la p\u0103\u0219une. Odat\u0103 ajun\u0219i acolo, c\u00e2mpul e gol. Ciudat. Vaca pare sup\u0103rat\u0103, la fel \u0219i Kristina care a devenit acum prietena ei cea mai bun\u0103. \u00centre timp, pe drum vine o turm\u0103 de capre. \u00cen timp ce P\u0103pu\u0219a \u00eei cere c\u0103prarului s\u0103 \u00eel cheme pe colegul s\u0103u v\u0103car care nu e la locul obi\u0219nuit, c\u00e2inii c\u0103prarului \u00eencep s\u0103 latre la vac\u0103 \u0219i s\u0103 o sperie. Huh-oh. Din fericire vaca nu fuge prea departe \u0219i suntem siguri c\u0103 o ajungem imediat. P\u00e2n\u0103 la urm\u0103 vacile nu sunt cele mai bune alerg\u0103toare, nu?<\/p>\n

GRE\u0218IT.<\/p>\n

Pasul #3: P\u0103streaz\u0103-\u021bi calmul \u0219i ai \u00eencredere \u00een tanti<\/p>\n

Vaca e prea rapid\u0103 \u0219i prea de\u0219teapt\u0103 pentru noi s\u0103 o mai putem prinde. \u00cencepem s\u0103 disper\u0103m pu\u021bin, mai ales \u0219tiind c\u0103 localnicii vorbeau despre un urs \u00een p\u0103durea din apropiere. Dar tanti P\u0103pu\u0219a e st\u0103p\u00e2n\u0103 pe situa\u021bie, p\u0103streaz\u0103 o atitudine stoic\u0103 \u0219i \u00eencepe s\u0103 caute urmele prin iarb\u0103. Nu avem nici cea mai vag\u0103 idee unde mergem dar tanti pare s\u0103 \u0219tie ce face a\u0219a c\u0103 ne \u00eencredem \u00een ea. \u00cen cele din urm\u0103 g\u0103sim vaca pe un drum pe care nu mai fusesem \u00eenainte. \u00ce\u0219i recunoa\u0219te st\u0103p\u00e2na \u0219i se las\u0103 condus\u0103 la p\u0103\u0219une. Dezastru evitat! \u00cen sf\u00e2r\u0219it ne putem relaxa \u0219i a\u0219tepta c\u0103ru\u021ba s\u0103 ne \u00eentoarcem acas\u0103.<\/p>\n
