Mid-Term Evaluation
I was on MidTerm Evaluation for 4 days. First of all, I must say that my last day was so crazy that I actually lost all my ideas and words that I was going to say about the entire Mid-term. Today I am a mess and probably my post will not be long and so understandable at some point. Plus I will not talk about the sessions that we had inside the training room from 10 to 19, because it will be boring to read it.
For people who don’t know about this mid term – basically, Mid-Term Evaluation brings together a lot of EVS volunteers who are somewhere in the middle of their projects. The days consist of sessions with different topics. For example:
- Youthpass-what it exactly is and how to fill it.
- Me in my project. Creating an EVS graph with all the ups and downs that have either brought my mood up or have brought it down nearly close to zero.
- Life after EVS.
- A tool fair, where people could share their teaching methods that they use in their projects, so other volunteers could get some ideas to use in their activities.
- And so on and so on.
And I have to mention that I finally met my first Estonian in Romania. The meeting took place in Busteni, and it is located in really amazing place. Every time when I got out from our hotel with Ania or Sophie, both of them had to listen to me ”WOW”-ing for many times. Probably they finally got sick of it.
Right behind the hotel I could see huge mountains that most of the time were literally in the middle of the clouds. I told my friends that I found my place and thats it, I will stay there.
All the people in the MT (at least the ones who I communicated with) were so super friendly and fun. And actually I even met a guy who probably has the same craziness level as I have. And can you imagine, there really exists someone who seemed to be surprised in a good way that I am a huge fan of hobbit and LOTR.
Being there was juuuussst great.On the first day of MT I went just for a walk with some people during the lunch break and I ended up rolling around in the snow, making snow angels and having a snowball fight (which, by the way, I believe that girls won). And by the way- it felt freaking good to act like a kid for an hour.
The same evening I thought how awesome would it be to go hiking in the mountains that are behind my hotel. Or at least go and see the waterfall that I have heard about. But the problem was that I only had enough free time during the evening, when it was obviously too dark to hike in the forest. SO I planned (yes, you read it correctly, i really PLANNED) something cool for the next morning. Luckily, someone decided to join me – so I had a super good motivation to get out of bed so early. We left the hotel at 8 and just hiked up up up, through the forest, until the waterfall. I surprised myself, because I have NEVER been a morning person, when people talk too much with me after I have just woken up, I have this killer-look for a long time. I have never woken up early in the morning because of something like this. And well, lets say that actually it was not only about hiking.
After our small walk I felt really good and I was even more motivated to go hiking the next morning, that time even higher, as far as the time allows me to go. Because why not? I don’t come to Busteni often and I don’t have a lot of people with who I could take some long ways up to the mountains and have fun conversations. I had a plan that I will leave even earlier to have more time for hiking. BUT, like always when I make plans, then the plans change. Something happened, which kept me awake all night, my sleepiness was gone very quickly. Basically I spent all my night sitting in the lobby, sitting on the stairs, sitting on the floor, sitting sitting sitting everywhere and talking. In the morning I felt like a zombie so I decided not to go hiking. WHICH MEANS that I will go back to Busteni as soon as possible and do what I didn’t do.
Something from someone: Time flies fu*king fast when you are doing something that you enjoy. So make the most of your EVS, because it will end. And believe me, it will end quickly. 1 month feels sometimes like 2 weeks in my case.

I have chosen Curba de Cultura, because I think that the association principles are close to mine. I admire the work done to develop rural areas with local events and to increase the quality of the educational process by nonformal education, especially when it comes to the youth’s entrepreneurship. The mission of bringing cultural interest to youngsters by nonformal education activities and organizing events that will make the communities more lively it seems to be something easy and maybe not interesting but it is actually a hard but rewarding job.
I also reckon that working with Curba de Cultură brings me professional experience abroad and I’d like to learn your vision of nonformal education and new ways to broadcast culture. I’m really enthusiastic about discovering a new culture, improving my English and finding goals for my life. And by the way, I am Franck, I am 22 and I am coming from the North part of France.
Am ales Curba de Cultură deoarece cred că principiile după care se ghidează asociația mi se potrivesc și mie. Admir munca depusă pentru dezvoltarea zonelor rurale prin evenimente locale și creșterea calității procesului educațional prin educație non-formală, în mod special când vine vorba de cel antreprenoriat. misiunea de a aduce interes cultural prin intermediul educației non-formale și organizarea de evenimente care vor da viață comunității pare a fi ceva ușor și neinteresant dar este de fapt o treabă grea și plină de satisfacții.
De asemenea socotesc că colaborând cu Curba de Cultură îmi va aduce experiență pe plan profesional, și mi-ar plăcea să învăț mai multe despre viziunea asociației asupra educației non-formale precum și noi căi de a difuza cultură. Sunt foarte entuziasmat să descopăr o nouă cultură, să îmi îmbunătățesc limba Engleză și să descopăr noi obiective în viață. Și apropo, numele meu e Franck, am 22 de ani și vin din partea de nord a Franței.

Back to work
2016 is here already and we are back in business, trying to find our routine, to get to full potential and thinking a bit of next vacation. We planned some changes for this year and we’ve got also some great ideas ready to be implemented in order to improve the community’s life and moreover, to bring smiles and joy on the faces of all those involved in a way or another in the good things Curba de Cultură does.
We also wish you lots of energy and luck for you 2016 plans!
2016 e deja aici iar noi suntem din nou în acțiune, încerând să ne regăsim rutina, să activăm la capacitate maximă și să ne gândim puțin la următoarea vacanță. Avem ceva schimbări plănuite pentru anul acesta și câteva idei grozave ce așteaptă să fie implementate pentru a îmbunătăți viața comunității, mai mult chiar, să aducă zâmbete și bună dispoziție pe fețele tuturor celor implicați într-un fel sau altul în ceea ce face Curba de Cultură.
Totodată vă urăm mult spor și noroc la îndeplinirea planurilor pentru 2016 pe care le aveți!

Christmas party – Petrecerea de Crăciun
La final de an înainte de a lua cu toții o vacanță binemeritată ne-am mai întâlnit cu toții o dată. Așadar am avut o petrecere de Crăciun cu felurite bucate gătite de voluntarii noștri locali și internaționali și cu un brad împodobit tot cu ajutorul lor.
At the end of the year, before taking a well-deserved holiday we all met once again. So we had a Christmas party with different types of food cooked by our local and international volunteers and with a Christmas tree also decorated with their help.
Douăzeci de voluntari locali, patru voluntari SEV, profesori colaboratori și personalul Curba de Cultură s-a reunit pentru câteva ore în care au discutat despre anul care se apropie de final și despre idei și planuri pentru anul următor, dar au și râs, s-au distrat și s-au simțit bine cu toții împreună.
Twenty local volunteers together with 4 EVs ones, collaborating teachers and Curba de Cultură personnel spent few hours in which they discussed the year about to end, but also about ideas and plans for the next one; at the same time they laughed, shared stories and had a good time altogether.

Christmas activities – Activități de Craciun
We are in December already so it was expected that everything will start to be related, to some extend, to Christmas. Every second sentence contains something related to it and at some point it even becomes annoying. But until that point let’s see how these days were:
- Christmas decorations workshop
- Christmas related activities
- Singing carols event
- and again Christmas decorations workshops
- plus English Speaking Meeting with Christmas as main topic
And these all in less then 10 days. Isn’t it a lot of Christmas?
Suntem în decembrie așa că era de așteptat ca totul să începă să fie legat, într-un fel sau altul, de sărbătoarea Craciunului. Fiecare a doua propoziție rostită ori scrisă are o anume legătură, iar după un anumit punct devine chiar enervant. Să vedem însă cum a decurs totul până acolo:
- Atelier de confecționat decorațiuni
- Activități legate de Craciun
- Cântat de colinde
- și din nou atelier de confecționat decorațiuni
- plus Întâlnirea de vorbit Engleză având Craciunul ca subiect principal.
Toate acestea în mai puțin de 10 zile. Nu-i așa că e cam mult Craciun?

Vizită la cursul internațional FEEL#1
În perioada 24 noiembrie – 02 decembrie 2015 Curba de Cultură a organizat primul training dintr-o serie de 3 al proiectului F.E.E.L. – Facilitators in Education and Empowerment of Learners. Fiind un training internațional acesta a reunit participanți din zece țări și a avut ca obiectiv principal creșterea capacităților organizațiilor de tineret din Europa în sprijinirea tinerilor din mediul rural. De asemenea a reprezentat și o bună șansă pentru voluntarii SEV a interacționa și cu alți străini, după o perioadă în care și-au ptrecut cea mai mare parte a timpului în comunitatea românească. Voluntarii s-au putut bucura de gustările și bucatele tradiționale ale fiecărei țări participante dar au dat și o mână de ajutor la organizare și la filmat și făcut poze.
Between 24th November and 02 December 2015 Curba de Cultură organised the first training in a series of three of the project F.E.E.L. – Facilitators in Education and Empowerment of Learners. Being an international training it reunited participants of 10 countries and it had as main objective to increase the capacity of youth-related organizations in Europe to work with and to the best interest of young people in rural areas. At the same time it represented a good chance for the EVS volunteers to interact with other foreigners after spending such a long time in a Romanian community. This way the volunteers enjoyed the traditional snacks and the food from each participant country but they also helped with organizing and filming and taking photos.

Portret de voluntar – Ania (Polonia)
I would describe myself as small, brave and open-minded girl. I try to be helpful for other people and I expect them to be the same to me. I do not like fight, argue with the others and I can’t stand when somebody is rude and impolite.
I would like to spend at least half of the year as the volunteer. I am ready to make one year break before I will go for my master degree studies. I would like to gain a lot of experience during this year and don’t waste my time for doing nothing. That’s why I am so motivated to go for that kind of stage. I just want to maximize my life in the best way I can. I am young and brave, if I can help others and at the same time gain a lot of for myself I want to do it. I just don’t want to waste my time just for education at polish university, I know that I can do more and I want to try.
Ania is coming from Poland from quite a big city, Lublin and she is experimenting living and working in a rural area. And so far she did quite a good job.
Mă descriu drept o fată mignonă, curajoasă și cu o minte deschisă. Încerc întotdeauna să fiu de folos celor din jur și mă aștept ca și cei din jur să facă la fel pentru mine. Nu îmi place violența, certurile și nu suport disrespectul și impolitețea.
Vreau să îmi petrec cel puțin o jumătate de an ca voluntar. Sunt dispusă la o pauză de un an înainte de a-mi continua studiile de master. Vreau să câștig experiență și nu să irosesc acest an făcând nimic. Asta e ceea ce mă motivează să iau parte într-un astfel de stagiu. Vreau să îmi cresc șansele din viață în cel mai bun mod posibil. Sunt tânără, curajoasă, iar dacă pot să îi ajut pe ceilalți și să câștig din asta, atunci vreau să fac acest lucru. În acest moment educația într-o universitate poloneză e o pierdere de timp, știu că pot mai mult și voi încerca mai mult.
Ania vine din Polonia, dintr-un oraș destul de mare, Lublin iar acum experimentează traiul într-o zonă rurală. Până în prezent pare că se descurcă.

Treburi in gospodărie
Și cum iarna se apropie schimbări și îmbunătățiri au fost aduse casei în care locuiesc voluntarii SEV.
Pe lângă înlocuirea ferestrelor clasice cu unele de termopan și izolarea peretilor casei a fost adus și un transport mare de lemne. Acestea împreună cu o cantitate asemănătoare existentă deja vor asigura combustibilul necesar pentru sobele din cele trei dormitoare ale casei plus, camera de zi și bucătăria.
Since winter is coming some changes and improvements were brought to the house where the volunteers live.
Beside replacing the classic windows with thermo-insulating ones and insulating the walls of the building also a big load of wood was brought. This wood together with a similar amount already existent will be the fuel for the masonry stoves which provide the heat in the three bedrooms, living room and kitchen.
Now we are all prepared a bit more for the scary winter.

În spatele unui stagiu EVS
Poate că e vremea să aflați mai multe despre ce se întâmplă în spatele unui proiect de mobilitate SEV și cum ajunge el să fie implementat și să dea ocazia unor tineri să învețe și să călătorească.
Un proiect SEV este bazat pe un parteneriat stabil între trei organizații:
- o organizație de coordonare – care aplică pentru finanțare la Agenția Națională (ANPCDEFP în cazul României), semnează contractul de finanțare odată ce proiectul a fost aprobat și poartă întreaga responsabilitate a proiectului precum și raportul la finalul proiectului.
- o organizație de trimitere – care promovează oferta de voluntariat și găsește persoana cea mai potrivită pentru stagiu, apoi îi oferă pregătire înainte de plecare și suport pe toată durata stagiului precum și la întoarcere.
- o organizație de găzduire – care se ocupă de toate aspectele practice ale proiectului (cazare, mese, transport local, materiale activități etc) dar și de cele legate de învățare (coordonator, mentor, cursuri de limbă, traininguri).
Alte sarcini care se împart între cele trei organizații sunt cele legate de monitorizare a proiectului, de diseminare și evaluare a rezultatelor, precum și de utilizare a acestora dincolo de durata de desfășurare a proiectului.
De cele mai multe ori însă una din cele două organizații, de trimitere ori de găzduire este și organizația coordonatoare, ceea ce simplifică puțin procesul de luare și implementare a deciziilor, dar crește numărul de sarcini și responsabilități pentru una din organizații.
După cum vedeți există o groază de factori implicați într-un proiect SEV, dar vă spunem mai multe, data viitoare.
Maybe is time for you to find out what happens actually behind an EVS mobility project and how it gets to the implementation phase and it gives the chance to some youngsters to learn and travel.
An EVS project is based on a stable partnership between 3 organizations:
- a coordinating organization – which applies for funding to National Agency (ANPCDEFP în Romania), signed the funding contract once approved and bears the entire responsibility of the project as well as the final report in the end.
- a sending organization – which promotes the volunteering offer and finds the most suitable person for the stage, offers preparation before departure and support during the entire stage as well as after the return of the volunteer.
- a receiving organization – which takes care of all the practicalities (accomodation, food, local transport, materials for activities etc) but also of the learning aspects (coordinator, mentor, language training, other trainings etc)
Other tasks which these three organizations have are related to monitoring the project, disseminating and evaluating the results and using those results after the end of the project.
Most of the times though one of the two organizations, sending or receiving, takes the coordination responsibility making the process of taking and implementing decisions process faster but increasing the number of tasks and responsibilities for one of the organizations.
As you can see there are tons of factors involved in an EVS project, but more, next time.

Continuând cu prezentările voluntarilor noștri vă aducem de această dată mai multe informații despre Hanna.
Continuing with presenting our volunteers we are bringing in the spotlights Hanna.
Every student asks him-/herself after school “What shall I do now?” – So do I. My name is Hanna Müllner, I am 19-years old, I live in a small town in the South of Germany. Not only the fact, that I am not sure yet what I want to study but also the desire to travel to other countries brought me to the idea of being part of the European Voluntary Service.
I hope to get to know your county, the people and the culture from a different perspective. I am excited to work in a project that helps the people involved and establishes something lasting. I am sure that I can contribute with my work to the life of others even in a small meaning, but also to myself, by learning new things about people from your country and my own personality. In school and youth work I have learned to run projects, to learn from failures, to take responsibility and to gain in experience! That is why I am happy to be a volunteer in your project.
Fiecare elev se întreabă la finalul școlii: Ce ar trebui să fac acum? – Asta mă întreb și eu scum. Numele meu este Hanna Mullner, am 19 ani și vin dintr-un orășel din sudul Germaniei. Nu doar faptul că nu știu încă ce vreau să studiez dar și dorința de a călători în alte țări m-a condus spre idea de a fi parte din Serviciul European de Voluntariat.
Sper să cunosc România cu oamenii și cultura ei dintr-o perspectivă diferită. Sunt încântată să lucrez într-un proiect care ajută oamenii implicați în ceva de durată. Sunt sigură că pot contribui cu munca mea la existența celorlalți chiar și puțin și de asemenea pentru mine prin învățarea de lucruri din țara gazdă sau despre personalitatea mea. În școală și în lucrul cu tinerii am învățat să conduc proiecte, să învăț din greșeli, să îmi asum responsabilități și să acumulez experiență. Acesta este motivul pentru care sunt fericită să fiu voluntar în proiectul vostru.
